Asheville/WNC Arborist Association- April 6

There are a handful of arbs in the Asheville area that got together last week to discuss the creation of an arborist association. We shared some good ideas about what we thought this organization could achieve. One key element to this is to get as many people involved as we can. We are having another meeting on April 6th, a Tuesday, at 6pm at a location to be determined. We want as many people in the area interested in being a part of this to come out join us as we embark down this path.

We will post more details as they are arrived upon.

Anyone involved in other similar organizations, feel free to chime in with some advice. We are definitely open to it.

I'm interested. Please keep me posted. I'm in TN an hour away from asheville, not sure if you are just interested in NC arborists?

Most of us live in the surrounding asheville area, but we are really welcoming anyone that wants to be a part of promoting trees in the area. Ive seen some of your videos and thought they might be in my neck of the woods due to the streamlined rows of topped maples in some neighborhoods. One main goal of ours is to educate the public. we feel that with more awareness and education, we might see less trees topped.

I will definitely post more info in the next week of an exact location, but it will be in the asheville area. Are you in Johnson City?

If you guys consider expanding your geographic reach to E. Tennessee, I'd be interested in being a part.

I work for a small college, not a company, and I'm in Chattanooga, but I'm really wanting to expand my involvement in the world and industry of arboriculture.

Cheers

I will bring it up next time we meet, but I honestly wouldn't see why anyone from anywhere couldn't be a part of it. Obviously most of the meetings and events will be in the asheville/wnc area, but that isnt too far from you. One of our goals is to create CEU opps for local guys, so that would possibly be of interest to you. Bottom line is if you want to make the drive, we'd have ya.

Awesome! CEU opportunities would be a boon...

I have family in Asheville, Waynesville, and Hot Springs, so this is just one more good excuse to get over there.

Good on you guys for doing this - looking forward to seeing what comes of it!

Hello! Thanks Nich for starting the tread!

The Meeting is scheduled for the 5th, Tuesday, at 6 pm.
The event will be held at Warren Wilson College, in the Merck Dining rooms of Gladfelter dining hall.

As far as CEUs, I do not think THIS meeting will be CEU worthy. This is a logistical meeting, to outline the goals of this potential organization. Please come with input and ideas. The more the merrier. So far as guys and gals from Tenn. I think the CEU events (when we schedule them) will be open to Tenn. for sure! However, arborists in Tenn. have their own forestry commission, the TUFC. Unless of course we decide to make this the Southern Mountain Arborist Association...

That may cause some logistical challenges what with keeping track of local laws and ordinances, but we could always have committees to separate the areas so far as that goes. It may be good to have a central group keeping track of regional happenings.

Look forward to seeing everyone!

Andrew Wagner

So

I'll be there. I've got an email to send out to a few people and hopefully they'll come too. Did you guys see this thread? It goes along with what we talked about at the last meeting concerning local ordinances, etc.

Tuesday April 19 at 7 pm is the next meeting. Same place, the room beside the Warren Wilson cafeteria. We had a great turnout so far, and are excited about our potential. We will see you then
