Arborist Wanted

Maybe what our industry needs is a good sub-contractor network? This is the direction that many trade industries have gone, for numerous reasons.
Arborcareman- You’re a damn good mentor, better than most. I wouldn’t be where I’m at professionally without guys like you. Unfortunately these days it seems everyone is out for themselves. I’m beginning to be less inclined to take the time when it won’t get returned.
In my situation I can't work with a guy very often, or I'll be doing a disservice to my clients who are what drives my income. So I don’t think it’s crap- it’s my business model. What works for me may not work for you, and it may just boil down to what your situation is. I’m curious Flying Squirrel, do you prefer to spend your time training these guys who leave as soon as you’ve taught them our trade (many of them directly compete with you), or spending time on a clients project or working on your business? There has to be a balance, and guys who are loyal do deserve time- don’t get me wrong. I do plenty of days (paid days for them) where we focus on training- safety and job process. I’ve sent guys to the ISA sponsored events and/or Arbormaster sessions. You know what that has got me? 9 out of 10 times, about 3-4 years of work and then off to the next stop for a similar term. In fact many of these events are used as recruiting tools for the bigger companies. They can see who is good and solicit them down the road.
