Anyone use 2 flip lines?

If I have to untie my lanyard / flipline I just tie in with my climbing line. Or position it on my saddle so it is set up like a lanyard. If I'm knocking down a spar or spiking up a pine / spruce, etc, I will either wrap my climbing line around the trunk and just clip it onto itself so it chokes the trunk, or if set it around a branch or set up a false crotch usually with a sling and micro pulley. If I'm just starting and have to clear the trunk of branches Ideally I would like to get a good high tie in and then come down and clear out all the branches, but sometimes with the branches being close together and stuff it's a pain trying to climb through all that so I advance my line as a I work up the tree taking down branches.

Climbing system? Umm, buckingham climbers with the crook leg tree spur, an old wide saddle my boss gave me, turned an old piece of rope into thigh straps, 2 flip lines I made my self out of good sections of old rope, both with self made prusiks one with a pulley for self tending.View attachment 53656

Nice to see someone else running a little ECho for a climber. I'm using a CS-251t. Love that little saw.

I prefer a DEDA Lanyard for tree work requiring complex work positioning.

I've been using a Double Ended, Double Adjustable (DEDA) work positioning lanyard system for several years which was based upon the concepts and work done by TheTreeSpyder and Tom Dunlap. I've recently revised my implementation, based upon the concepts and work done by Giorgio Fiori, and Nick Bonner (TreeStuff.com).

Very compact Schwäbisch Prusiks with SS Shackle 'tender' works amazingly smoothly (almost like a pulley). Prusik cordage colors are 'coordinated' with their associated snap color. These "snap hooks" were selected because *two* will fit comfortably in the lower-D of the TreeMotion and they meet ANSI Z133 8.1.9.

Looks like the 3 lock is the same price

Shiiit... I just tried to buy some of these from moosejaw but i couldn't figure out which was which as far as the gate went... Literature was all identical & SKU's didn't mirror part numbers..
Also, those posted links prices seem to have gone up.. looks like i missed out.. I ended up buying mine from BackcountryGear.. I think i went with the only option they had which was Screw, as they also had those Magnetron Gridlocks i wanted to try out..
It was one of those purchases where you could get free ship & 15% off but they don't have everything your trying to buy, so you compromise. I must say i wish i tried Amazon. I usually don't even look at Amazon anymore for Climb/Arb stuff as it's "sponsored" search feature serves up so much crap.

Anyhow.. think those Magnetron Locks could work as easy as a Rope Snap but take up less room.. Well just have to see if saw dust mucks the mechanism up.
By lock Camp means movement, the 2 Lock is a twistlock, only 2 movements to open, not ansi compliant.
Right right.. they deff didn't put much creative thought into naming their Locking Features.. But i kinda like it, makes it easy to determine on a site..(only if the site listed it though).. Its nothing like "Super Duper Quadruple Tactical Reversing Auto Locker" where your left scratching your head wondering..

So i got those Compact Oval were sitting out front while i was typing my last response..

I was pretty pumped to check them out.. but once seeing them in hand their not exactly as small as i thought.. their not bad or anything.. They deff have a nice feel to them & I like how smooth & easy the screw lock is.. it's more tactile than the DMM "regular" oval i have.. you can almost flick & spin the screwlock into place. The spring on the gate is nice a strong as well.

But the size (whole reason i got a hard-on over them), isn't much smaller than the DMM's Ovals i already have. I think the small size difference will come in handy in those situations where a milimeter equals a mile..

I don't know why.. but they looked so small in JeffGu 's lanyard pic.. Makes me wonder if i actually got the right product.. I had to of though.. What i was actually expecting was something around the size of the black Metolius pear biner below.. No biggie though.. I'm sure I'll find a use.

Here's some size comparisons.. Left to right.. Notch D, Metolius Pear, Camp Compact, Dmm Regular oval.

I got one of the cheap Camp 3 lock compacts from Amazon to see quality fit finish. I too was surprised how much bigger it is than I thought.

Top to bottom: petzl ok ball lock, Camp 3 lock compact, Mad Rock Ultra Tech HMS Triple Lock, and DMM lock safe ultra o.

Its maybe a mm or 2 shorter than the Petzl and DMM. Its definitely narrower. The mad rock tripple from wespur has them all beat in size. Great crab for 12 bucks.

Quality fit and finish the Camp wasn't quite on par with the DMM and Petzl. Its heavier than both. Nothing glaring wrong with it. It just doesn't seem as smooth and refined. All in all great budget crab at the price I got it for.

Barc Buster, that isn't the HMS version, mislabeled by Wespur, and other vendors I've seen. Camp in the middle, Mammut's Micro oval on the left, and the Mad Rock HMS.

They're not that much smaller than a DMM oval, true. A bit narrower, which makes them feel a lot smaller. I picked up some more of the 3-lock ones and a couple more of the screw-lock ones at the $10 price, too. I like their light weight, and for a lot of things, the slightly smaller size seems to make more difference than it ought to.

I have another small canopy anchor (install/retrieve from ground, both SRT and DdRT with pulley) and to get the size down I used a smaller ring that needs to be able to pass all of the hardware. The DMM ovals won't fit through it. The CAMP ones are about 1/4" narrower, and drop right through.

I'm always finding places where the lighter weight and narrower profile is handy. I really wanted more of them because I'm modifying another lightweight big wall harness for tree work, with an emphasis on light weight for the whole setup, including the climbing gear. When you weigh all of the components on a postal scale, it's quite surprising how quickly even small reductions add up.

The hard part is fighting my love of stainless steel hardware, in favor of aluminum. This setup won't be for all day arboreal adventures, though, so I'm determined to use aluminum wherever I can.

I don't what the small hole is there for, but maybe a footloop could be attached to the becket of the pulley.

I'll carry a foot lock prussic for several uses. One is a secondary lanyard. Learned it from Chris Coates. Girth hitch to one hip D and use a biner on the other side. Short enough to not need an adjuster.
