Anyone tried The Edge™ saddle?

Recently, got a flyer from Sherrill introducing The Edge™ saddle. It looks interesting. Does anyone have some first hand experience with it?

Hey there,

I have had the edge for a couple months. Climbed on it a good amount of times. I personally like it. Its way lighter than the ergovation but has some of the same features.

The great thing I like about it is the elastic waist strap. It keeps the saddle at your hips or where ever you put it on your body.

I am going to change out the clevices for paws or rings with a rope bridge but thats just me.

Hope that helped.

It is actually an Ergo "light". It was designed by the same guy but meant to be lighter and less complicated. Does anyone know who is manufacturing it?

Thanks SuperK! That does help. I was thinking of going for a rope bridge, too -- adjustable. I didn't know about the elastic waist strap. Is it replaceable?

Good point, Banjo, about the maker. I hope it's made in the US! There is a line in Sherrill's flyer; "... Buckingham has incorporated stainless-steel clevises ... ." That sure sounds like Buckingham makes the saddle.

I am pretty sure that Ed is working exclusively with Buckingham on the saddle. He posts here as CORE_1, you could probably get more accurate info from the designer himself.

Shut up tom.Mine just came in last week and I have a couple of climbs on it. so far I really like it. I think once I dial it in it will only be a short modification to my climbing style and we can get some stuff done reasonably comfortably with less stress on these old joints. I say give it a shot.

Not sure if it is replaceable didnt look at it that closely but i will check.

Seems like other climbers like it as well.

I have a Weaver cougar and looking for a new saddle myself. The edge does look pretty good to me. Although I'd prefer a rope bridge myself as well. I run a V.T set up on a hitch climber pulley with a small pulley on the bridge. I bought my cougar in 08 and want something newer. Also there's a few puffs coming out of my bridge, its scaring me a little, with all the recalls on rings and bridges. My rings are labeled and my bridge is the black and yellow one, both are not on the recall list but still...

I have been working hard in an Ergovation for one year. Love it. Heard that a new 'light weight' Ergo was in the works... I was excited and waiting to see if I would want it.
I am guessing that the Edge is the 'slimmed' down version of the Ergo... looks more like the target was to get the price down to compete in these 'tough economic times'?
I would consider just getting the Ergo (or TM) if you can spend the whole $500 on a harness. I think the value is real. Money well spent

I would be very careful of this. those puffs mean something. I just replaced the bridge on one of my workers cougar and it was a mess. the outside look like normal wear and the inside was falling apart. this is coming from a guy who only uses the harness once and a while. Like 2-3 times a month. I have pics if interested.

As for the edge it looks cool. I like the elastic velcro band. seems like it would give good support.

I've used mine a couple of very short times. I like it, and the price is right.

Not exactly a 'ringing' endorsement, Sean. I'd like to try it but would love to hear your (or anyone's) likes and especially dislikes ... a first hand mini-review.

I'd like to have more of a review of it from myself. Its my State Parks climbing harness, so I get little chance to use it.

For my personal work, I'm climbing in a Glide II that I got a few years ago.

I can say that the elastic waist belt under the structural waist belt is a nice feature.

The slightly wider and more firm leg straps are good. They won't curl under like my Glide II leg strap wants to do all the time, effectively reducing its width.

The drawback is that the leg straps are a bit bulkier while walking around on the ground, which I do a good bit. I may be setting my next line, dragging brush, bucking/ felling a spar. Many people don't do this. I will frequently just take off my saw and positioning lanyard for a few minutes or ten of groundwork. I think that I'd be less inclined to leave it on with the Edge.

More info after I get to wear it next time I have to climb at State Parks, which won't likely be for a bit (but I get to climb 2 days each weekend for my private jobs, typically, which I great).

I'd like to climb more for the state.

I think Oly is out of your service area. Wanna buy my business and extend your area to the south Puget Sound area?

Singlejack,

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. The elastic waist band is removable from the saddle.

I was climbing Tuesday with it. It is really light and comfortable i can totally vouch for that.

I noticed though how much the leg straps ride up sometimes. I know you can adjust that though too. Also like southsoundtree said they are really comfortable and wide. The regular pads that come with the ergo fold right up and would pinch like crazy this has none of that.

For climbing in the ergo for the last 2 to 3 years and then to this I really would say it is exactly what they market it as the lil bro of the ergo.

Sorry for the bad humor! Just jealous of the parks job. Don't need any more self employed fun in Oly..

Another spot will probably be opening up when my boss retires, only 2-6 years to go.

I would take a buy-out deal. Anyone? Anyone? Beuller?

I have an Ergo, and like it..but it's a bit on the complex side and is heavy.

the elasto waist strap is great to rein in my freaking fat gut.

I checked out the Edge at Wesspur a month ago, and might pick one up. light and simple is nice.
