Anyone ever...

Guy in Omaha did it years back. Apparently it was quite the spout and the utilities had to come out and turn it all off. Idk about Hollywood, but I wouldn't want my name behind that scene.

Ok well then admit it what's the worst incident you've ever had doing tree work? I've broken my hand, smashed a mail box or two, own a couple of sections of fences, and most recently came closer then I ever want to come again to hitting a well head.

I wasn't even cutting! I fell asleep in line waiting for fuel at the "Vince Lombardi" fuel thingy during hurricane Sandy.....behind the wheel! Completely trashed the rear end of an attorney's Audi. I can't believe such an expensive car couldn't withstand a love tap from my winch hook! Cop's were real cool though -didn't even get a ticket!

Put a butt end of a pine through the windscreen of the bucket truck. Landed on its head and sprung back through the windscreen. Had to cut the stem out to remove it.

For some reason, I just re read this.. and laughed my head off.

...it's been a long day.

Oh man. I have left some carnage in my wake. Some by me some by groundies. $600 pruning job cost me $2400 in repairs. Wells, fences, sprinklers, a gutter or 3. Roof shingles and a corner of a house.

Self taught and mostly in the early years. Lots of f-it cuts because I was uncomfortable trying to get a better rigging spot or tip. Mostly new guy ignorance without a good coach. Hey, I'm still alive and everything got fixed! Used to keep 2 top rails for chainlink fence in the ladder box on the truck!
Hey Steve, man... I was just breaking balls. I've caused more damage than that just this week. It's Monday!

You're a badass treeclimber, dude.

That's what I'm talking about -keeping 2 top rails of chain link in the box! Sometimes it's just more efficient to smash and replace than avoid!

Hit an artesian well head with a tree? What happened, is it like a geyser as Hollywood depicts the hydrants?

Nothing would happen if you live in New England in regards to water gushing out. There is no pressure in the wells. I have an artesian well. I can pop the top off any time I want with just a screwdriver.
My well has a submersed pump that sits on the bottom of the well and thats what pumps the water up through a pipe that runs to the house.
Those well castings are pretty solid. You would probably crack the top, and maybe, just maybe the castings. But your not going to see water come gushing out.

Man, I had a disclaimer on my contracts about everything. Still bad customer service to say f u, You didn't mark it. Was doing a very high end job and busted the well cap with the bobcat. Homeowner didn't even know it was there. It was the feed for his ac system. Some kind of new fangled rich person system like a geothermic. Anywhoo, after an $800 after hours plumber bill it wasn't fixed. He called another plumber and had him come out. I told him I already did due diligence in the first plumber that per contract I wasn't required to pay for. After going back and forth, he split the second plumber with me. It was a 14k job anyway. Good guy and made some valid points about referrals. Not threats though. Anyway several years later his house burned down and he had to rebuild on the same lot. Did another 10k in work for him clearing more of the lot. Cut and drop type work. It turned out to be beneficial to eat $1500 on the well cap. I certainly didn't do that with everyone but this particular neighborhood was a money pit. I did a lot of work in there. I actually fired a guy because he threw his lunch trash under the truck instead of walking 100' to the trash can then lied about it. I searched through his trash and found the date and time stamped receipt and canned him. Sometimes it's worth investing in possible referrals and eating some profit.
