Anyone else give-up on routine "friction-saver" usage?

It was set at any desired location long after accessing the tree. In that video (which could be titled ‘Tree Climber Soup’, brilliantly produced by @moss), I had accessed a lower region with a Canopy Anchored Stationary System. I then switched to a Moving System to alternate my way to the top.

After that, I set a Cambium Saver and began moving around and checking out the tree. That’s when I began transitioning back and forth from Moving to Stationary, but without altering my Cambium Saver.

There are times when a moving system is ideal for anchoring, but you might want to move considerable distance up and down. By making the switch as I did in that vid, you can get the 1:1 benefits of SRS when you need it. Then you can alter back to MRS without going all the way back to your Canopy Anchor. It’s all done mid-line, wherever, whenever.

Hope that all makes sense!
Crystal clear. I have the climbing fever bad! Just want to get up in the canopy and practice/play. Good stuff. Thank you.

You’re most welcome. Also…you don’t really need a prusik/carabiner to do that number. You can make do with just a Carabiner and an Alpine Butterfly. The Prusik method is much more easily adjusted, and you don’t have to tie a knot with tail weight affecting you.

Oh my...this is going to be fun! The versatility is inspiring. It's interesting as I gain experience, the flexibility, options, alternatives, start to come into play.

I'm a big fisherman (trolling). Lot's of knots to tie. Lot's of choices. Different ones are right for the application and conditions. Almost like a language. I find maneuvering through the canopy with rope, knots, and gear to be similar. Sometimes the Zig Zag is great (most of the time, actually). But then, a simple move from here to there with a bridge and the simplicity of Blake's Hitch is the only thing that needs to happen.

Cheers,

Yep. Rope work is a language in itself. There are knots, hitches, and bends. When you know your goal, you can choose the right style based on its fundamental principals.

It’s been said, and I agree, that if one could learn the language first, one wouldn’t need to learn much in the way of specifics…the knot, hitch, or bend would be invented out of one’s mind for the task.

Check out ‘Ashley’s Book of Knots’ if you haven’t already.

Treesap didn't invent that trick. He learned it either on this forum or by watching YouTube videos. He did present an idea to you that is useful, however, but don't read any more into it than that. If you give him an inch of credit for ideas and opinions that aren't his, he'll take a mile and never come clean about the fact that he's 15 years old.
I confess to finding young mister treesap's posts both annoying and concerning.

Master Moss seems to me like an amazing trainer, based on what I’ve seen here. Not many have the skills and the willingness to teach that he seems to demonstrate!
That man has facilitated some amazing climbs for people that may never have had the experience otherwise. I do not mean to throw him under the bus here, but his adoption of Production Arb protocols has expanded and solidified over the years, so props to him for that. I am grateful to know the man and to have shared several climbs with him.

Oh my, that thread is really turning into a dumpster fire.... I almost want to take screenshots before it's all deleted, but we don't need to bring that mess back here.
