I am looking for a used climbing helmet.

What for ? Maybe $30-40 makes a difference to some people. Maybe there are helmets sitting on shelves brand new and unused. What for? You want to smash it or something? If you're looking for ppe, 70$ is pretty reasonable https://www.treestuff.com/store/catalog.asp?category_id=0&item=17167
I think I am going to bite the bullet and order a new one. This will appease the safety nuts I will be climbing with. Thanks for the advice.
Bud junk that alveo.... I did that to a kask a while back. Damn I own 4 helmwts personally. I have 2 alveo vents and 2 vertex vents. alveos for rec climbing and comps and vertex for work. Foam separated is no good in case of a hit. That is why it's glued in place.I just replaced a petzl alveo vent, the foam insert detached from the shell and the ear protection is torn. It's been well used. I plan to keep it however for a while to see if I like the new helmet. If your still looking after I decide I like the new one, I could send it to you for the cost of shipping. Assuming it's acceptable to reglue the foam? Ear muffs are easily replaceable or removed and use ear plugs

The protos, be prepared to strengthen your neck muscles. Many like it. I abhor them. Loads of my buddies rave them. I tried them twice. Could not get used to them. Kask I no longer like either. But very personal. Bet you love it. No way trying to deter you. Boots helmets spurs and pants....so personal.Yea I've been contemplating which helmet to get for a while, the alveo is my only one so I kept using it. Now I'm just waiting on a protos to be delivered later this week. Once it's here I don't see myself using the vent anymore. The plastic is in good shape, other than a little faded, so I figured it might be better than nothing if a fellow climber needed one.
I would not work in the alveos. Great for recs and comps. But the vertex vent is one sweet work horse. I never go cheap on tree gear. But these days I know what I like after trying and trying. Don't stray too far from that and thankfully the gear inventions have stabilized.Alveo is crap, cheap light and flimsy. Probably good for rec and other light duties. The classic vent is hard to beat. Seen kasks but they don’t look any better or much worse than the vertex but a higher price point. The others look safe but extravagant and not cheap.
I learned a while ago not to cheap out on gear. I cycled through four saddles in as many years before I bit the bullet and bought the one I wanted all along but couldn’t justify the costs. In retrospect I paid 3 times the amount.
I live and work in the tropics. Always used a kask. This year I tried a Vent for the second time. Like chalk and cheese. It is just so comfy breeze blows through the suspension and way cooler and a tad lighter too. Horses for courses as the old folk say. I really like them.I run a vertex vent as well. I really like the newer version with the adjustments on the side. When it comes time for a new helmet I'm probably going with another vertex vent. I have a kask plasma as well and like it but to me its not any better than the vertex. I like the buckle for the chin strap much better on the vertex. Its easy to get off with gloves on.
