Any more work in California...from the fires?

... Not much more to say. I heard a lot of climbers left bc the contracts changed and was wondering if there's a lot of work again from the recent fires.

When I was there earlier this year, the market was being flooded with inexperienced climbers and a lot of washed up loggers. The contractors regulated you to death and the work was never steady. This caused any of the good guys to head to greener pastures.

I still get calls from the upper management out there, trying to get me back, so they are still cutting. I'm sure with this year's fire season, there will be more work. The problem is, the market is flooded with cheep labor.

A few years back, you could make a killing out there, now, not so much. @Raven, the Butte Fire paid pretty well right?

Yes Phillips and Jordan did pay pretty well on that one, - eventually. But had to wait too long to get squared up through the layers of subs, and they were tight about per diems and travel pay. All in all it was a nice vacation with a paycheck but I'd not do it again without a signed and notarized contract - too many ways for the primary to screw the subs then the subs have to screw the employees - it's a nightmare.

I'm sure the work is there but not the riches, I'd recommend just finding a small local tree company to work with maybe they can help with short term lodging, avoid the big contracts unless you like long hours of BS

Not trying to scare you off, CA in the winter is nice. Check in job finder I think there are a couple buzzers in the Grass Valley area needing help - local guys not disaster relief
