Amsteel girth hitch

Can you girth hitch amsteel? Is there considerable strength loss? This is 1/2 in amsteel with an 8in eye,24in bury, lock stitched what do you say?

There is a lot of strength loss. I tested this only once with some small-diameter Amsteel Blue, but was surprised at the large loss of strength. I don't have the figures handy, but I seem to remember the rope had only 30% to 40% residual strength. The bridge of the girth hitch seemed to pinch (i.e., crush) the two loaded legs, and the failure occurred at the pinch point.
