Alternative to Alturnamats

I'm wondering if anyone has had success with other materials for turf protection. We bring a couple of sheets of plywood whenever we're using the mini-skid to protect areas where we're making sharp turns. Plywood just wears out too quickly. The alturnamats look great, but I think they're overkill for our use and a bit heavy (84 lbs for a 4x8 sheet). Are there similar products out there?

Also alturna mats make a much smaller one as well. It's like 2 feet by 5 or 6 feet or something. Just stack a few of them together is your worried about weight.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'll look into the horse mats and might just pony up for the alturnamats. I need to find out if there is a dealer locally to avoid shipping charges. I like the full 4' width for making zero radius turns with the mini (not sure if two 2' mats side by side would stay in place). Painting the plywood would probably help it hold up better, but on uneven ground it just gets twisted and starts cracking pretty quickly.

bobcat dealers sell them stamped bobcat but they are made by alturna mat if you need local, but treestuff did free shipping for mine if i remember right

We have 20 alturnamats. They do not offer the weight displacement plywood offers. Alturnamats will still leave indents in lawns and crack driveways. Sure they last longer than plywood, but I'd rather buy more plywood than buy a new driveway.

Treestuff offers free shipping on alturnamat purchases over $1000. I don't need that many mats. Probably 2 or 3 max. It looks like they're about $50 each to ship through treestuff otherwise. Still probably a better deal than buying from the bobcat dealer.

Treestuff has discount codes too. Extra 5% plus for different codes. I paired up with a friend, i think we bought around 20. No one else could touch their price. No one.

I really like the horse stall mats because they conform to the terrain you are working on. You can go over curbs etc with a bit of padding. The mini turns on a dime as well. Bit greasy when wet, but you just got to slow down a bit. And I love that we can just roll them up and put a strap around them and move them with mini. You dont have to move a bunch of little baby mats. The only thing I dont ike is that you cant turn a corner with one. They dont bend in that dimension. Maybe a couple of mats and then a 20 ft piece of horse stall mat would work out well. Mine are made by BF goodrich...

I never knew that the mats didn't do as good of a job as ol' plywood. Thought it was the other way around.

We ended up ordering the alturnamats through treestuff. Found someone else to share an order with and got 5% and free shipping. The mats ship straight from the factory and took about 3 weeks to show up. The 4x8' mats are not as heavy as I thought; they can be moved by one person, but it's easier with two.
