Advice on rope

Hi all! I am making a safety rope to tether my harness to the tree when I am in a deer stand. My question is what is the smallest diameter rope that is safe to use? The smaller the better because I have limited room in my pack. However, I obviously want the rope to be more than capable of holding my weight in case of a fall. Any suggestions on size, type of rope, or a specific rope would be much appreciated. Thanks

Are you planning on giving yourself enough slack to fall? Do you climb ropes, rocks, trees, walls, towers.....anything the rest of the year? What type of stand? Mode of acsent? There are a lot of answers needed before I would consider suggesting a safety rope for tree hunting and I've been hunting out of trees for 30+ years.

I will be hunting out of a lone wolf assault hand climber. It is a climbing stand without any bar around the top portion of the stand. I will be wearing a new tribe tengu harness as my safety harness. I plan to leave slack in the rope when I am in the stand for ease of movement. I have done some SRT climbing with the tengu in large oaks where there is no place to use a climber. Other than that no other climbing experience. Thank you all for the feedback so far. It is much appreciated

Okay then I think you would be fine any climbing line. The dynamics are great if you plan on falling far before stopping. Of course without a belay or shock cord the stop will still suck. After you fall below your stand you will have 3 choices; ascend, descend, hang around until you are rescued or die. Obviously only 2 of those options make sense so which way are you going? Of course I would also never give enough slack that I would fall below my stand. Keep it above you and kerp it snug. Swing if you slip, never fall!

New England has a rope called saluting branches that's a 11.5 rope have climbed on it yet but it looks like a decent cameo rope for hunting blaze bandit might still be a little bright color wise

Good advice and I'll add one more thing. Make a loop of some 6mm cord about 6 feet long. It won't weigh much or take up much space in your pocket. Keep it in your pocket.

If you fall, make a 6 wrap prusik knot chest high and put your boot in it and stand up to take the weight off of your crotch (and artories). You can die of suspension trauma for real, I have a customer that almost did it coming out of his stand. Also, if you can get your weight off the harness tie-in you can rig up a way to rap out of the tree.

Any hunter that wanders in my store looking for something goes out with a free 13' length of 6mm.
