A little Crane Work on a Friday

None of the picks looked threatening to you personally and you must have been ready for them, but can I ask why you had every limb flip except for two of them? Not knocking you and am genuinely curious about your reasoning. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for watching. First of all, the video only shows like 8 picks out of the 18 or 20ish it took to dismantle the whole tree, but yes a lot of them were rigged to flip. This is simply because I knew I could get away with it safely, and more importantly, it it was much faster. I had a fairly small drop zone to deal with so making large picks was out of the question. In order to keep the guys on the ground busy, as well as getting the crane out of there as quickly as possible (I pay him by the hour), I had to make sure I was expedient with my rigging. When you are taking picks as small as the ones I was cutting, having them flip is no big deal. Dead branches are one of the biggest concerns when a pick flips because they often times break off and go flying but luckily this tree was extremely healthy, and Red Oak has a tendency to hold on tight to its dead branches. Honestly I much more enjoy the crane jobs where I can get out the tenex and make well balanced large picks and inundate the hell out the groundies :) This allows me to take my time to rig up the next one. Although it's more technical, it is less stressful on me to keep that hungry green machine on the ground fed.
