A bit of crown retrenchment pruning

interesting read.. I love how science changes and we are forced to adjust our practices...when i began this journey we topped a lot of trees......now never....maybe in 10 years no flat cuts

The tree lives happily ever after

It does increase the life span in the same way with limes, beeches and plane trees over here as pollards.

Heres the chart used to identify how much should be cut. http://www.treeworks.co.uk/downloads/Retrenchment_pruning_2008.pdf

very good, nice work if you can get it.

This type of work is so far ahead of anything else out there just now.

Have only ever carried out coros above paths on an oak woodland, that's the first example i've seen of them being applied in a residential setting.

That Ed Sheeran though - it's horrible...cloying and insidious. Better tunes next time please!

You should of heard it with Sonny and Cher.

Yeah this is around the 5th residential one i've done in 3 years. Im due to go grab some photos of one we did 12 months ago to map its development over 5 years.

Very cool! I would have really liked to see the before and after pics of the oak.
Most times I've done or recommended retrenchment pruning it's possible to see the new crown developing below the flagging leaders. It often can make getting the pruning done without destroying the new crown quite a challenge.
