Well it’s good news for CMC, that their machine is not just randomly failing.
How I read it: this machine failed twice. Once while "stock" then a second more catastrophic time after welding.

My take away is, between the first failure and the other machines that have failed, CMC has still got a problem. I'm hopeful that their reinforcement kit has solved these issues for everyone who owns one.

Also by this point, all owners should be aware of thus issue and those 24 lifts should be knocking on CMC's door to get it repaired.

How do they know the retro-fit kits are going to work? Are they just slapping a bandaid on the machine ?

Not gonna lie this makes me feel a bit better about flying one regularly (yes it had the reinforcements put on). It'll be interesting to see what the other failure was caused by.
It is definitely nice to have confirmation, but I’ve still felt safe in ours, and so has the guy who usually runs it.

We are always gentle with it though, especially when pushing the limits of horizontal reach. That’s when the forces are highest, when the boom angle is the flattest. I know how bad dynamic loading of anything in that configuration can be. I also have a feeling the safety factor is quite high, based on my knowledge of crane safety factors when a person is riding one.
