$500 BC935 chipper I picked up today..

Location
Alabama
Couldn't pass this up - traded $500 out of a $4,500 one day job total for this Vermeer Bc935 with the Perkins diesel. Apparently motor was in perfect shape, and this big landscaping company rarely used it. Guy said they brought it to a job and it stopped chipping properly, blaming clutch or something.
Looks like it sat for a good year, but motor, oil, filters, etc all look great.
Anything to watch out for on these units?
Hoping I end up with $1,500 or so in an auto feed chipper I can use my mini and grapple to feed.

That’s a Whole Lot of Winning.

You scored. Are you planning on updating to auto feed or did you mean a self feeding chipper?

Damn did you score big. I had a 935 with the gas Wisconsin motor and loved it. If you wind up not liking it let me know, I'm in AL too. I would refrain from mini feeding it too much. These are perfect pruning and small removal crew machines. How many hours?

Dick!!! Just kidding that’s awesome!!! Congrats!!!

What we've found so far:
Motor fires right up and runs strong. Had new oil and filters.
Reverse bar was bent, preventing it from engaging reverse. We bent it back, it reverses fine.
Knives were completely dull. Looked like they'd been sharpened on the back side. My mechanic and blade sharpening guy both said may need new knives. They're on the way from Wespur I think.
A few things here and there like trailer light pigtail and hydraulic wheel jack missing.
We tried to chip this log in the pic but the knives were too dull.
I thought it already had "auto feed", we were attempting to check that out with the log in the pic but will have to wait and see after I get new knives.

I think the landscaping company just got the thing on trade, chipped some bad debris and when the reverse bar bent they didn't know what to do with it.
Still thinking I'll only have about 1,500 in it after fixing everything and maybe painting it

If the blades are that bad you should double check the anvil also. The smaller chippers really benefit from always having sharp cutting edges.

X2 on anvil...and those never had a hydraulic wheel lift cylinder, so you dont need one...the auto feed setups vermeer used were mediocre at best and $$$ to replace. Nice score though.

I have a 935 that has served me well for years. As others have mentioned, sharp knives are critical. These machines don't feed very well when they start getting dull.

Thanks, yeah these were the dullest I've ever seen. Ordered new ones because my sharpener guy said it looked like somebody tried to sharpen the back sides.
Man we gotta get up! I live and mostly work in Madison AL

We should do that at some point. I lived in Madison growing up. We work in Madison a decent bit. Did a job this morning out there actually.

Bevel buddy maybe?

How do you maintain the right/ matching length on the blades with the Bevel Buddy?

Edit:

Found this :

The counter-ground path on the back of the knife should be approximately 1/16” to 1/8” wide.

• We suggest resharpening the knives in the chipper no more than 3 times before removing them to be sharpened in your stationary grinder or reversed on a turn knife system.

Partnered with Morbark says something! Morbark has chipped a thing or two.
