40\'+ telescopic poles

These are nothing new but not used much by climbers that I know of. I'm a fairly accurate thrower but I got to wonder...

I thought the counter weight/tripod idea was fresh outta my brain but there it was on google. I was also thinking of a rope to extend and retract from the base and a big hook to drop the weight around a vertical. Every now and then it would save the day. But really would it save time or stay at the shop covered in dust? Maybe a shoulder harness like a flag bearer?

Great idea on the right tree put ur throw weight with your throw line an ur good to go 5mins is 5 mins means money when u have people standing around 5 mins times how many people standing around it will pay for it self in no time

Re: 40\'+ telescopic poles

Growing up in hawaii, we used to use a 40' bamboo pole for a mango picker. It took both my brother and I to get that thing airborne. One of us to hold and the other at the end of the picker basket to throw it up it and get momentum.
It takes some serious skill to handle a picker that long! Mangos galore though in early summer, stoked!!

Re: 40\'+ telescopic poles

I've been using these since '93. The telescopic fiberglass ones can easily be handled by one person. Saw a lineman using these on a project I worked on and jumped on the bandwagon. Made extensions out of a fishing pole to get more reach (but then you lose accuracy ) still use them for setting throw line once in a while. I'll have to dig out some old photos.

The one I use from Unger was around $100. It's only 30' but is a real time saver in the right tree. Also comes in handy when you want to grab an overshot bag that is over the fence in the neighbor's yard, and you don't want to backpull it up thru the tree and chance getting it stuck.
