Will a 395xp or ms660 run an alpine magnum or do i need a 3120 or 880? Looking into picking one up for those “special” jobs we cant get a real grinder to..

IMO I pass on those jobs. I have no experience with an alpine magnum but they look torturous.
That they do! I was mostly just curious. I already decided we will crane the 7015trx into this one or not do it, as it became a remove and replace so we will have to crane the new tree in there anyway. So the only variable is hand digging the hole. Rocks being our biggest issue here in VT.

Probably beats my goofy little machine, the Toro SG-13. Handy when I need it though, it earns and doesn’t take up much space, and has green teeth (700 series I think) that seem to stay sharp for a long time. I love Honda small engines and the price was right for a used machine with under 60 hours. Not something I’d want to run for more than a couple hours.

For me the alpine was one of my best Investments.
I have 6 grinders in my wee fleet and that tiny thing brought me so many jobs, because I was the guy, who was able to do that "special" stump in the backyard, so I could do them all. Sometimes it's just there to finish the last inch of a stump, my bigger grinders couldn't reach. Countless sensitive jobs on cemetaries and raised beds, wouldn't want to be without it. Highly prefer it over my walk behind.
To answer your question, I think a 660 would be fine. The point is, that those tiny teeth break in a heartbeat when they hit a Stone WOT, most of the time you just feather the throttle. When doing clean and massive wood, then balls to the wall, but it's so slow, it's better to cut that clean wood with the saw and grind what you can't flushcut.
