There isn't anything the 462 or 462c wouldn't do for me. A year ago there was a shortage in chips so the local dealer had a bunch of 462s to fill the void. I held off knowing I had two 440s home.
To me the 440 is irreplaceable. Yes they can still be found. Usually abused and always a pretty penny no matter what the condition. For me to find 2 NOS case halves was like a crack head at a dealers convention. With just a few more parts to acquire, I'll most likely send this saw to Randy aka Mastermind. I want one built by him. This will be my runner up crane saw, for bigger wood, with a 28'' bar. It'll live an easy life this way. My regular 440 will just be a backup saw for what mid sized saw I have needing to be backed up.
I wouldn't want to run either 440 in my firewood pile. Lots of continuous cutting. I use my 461 here now. a little heavy. I want something lighter and powerful for prolonged cutting. Yes the 500i isn't really heavy but it is a fuel pig. This is where the 462c comes in. Awesome power to weight, and I love the chipped carb in my 262. That's why I held off on the 462. I WANT the chipped version.
I hope this clears things up....LOL.
