What exactly is the utility masters challenge? That's a new one on me and was just curious. Look forward to seeing everyone up there once again.

Yea man this is shaping up. I want to take a second and say that MTCC has undergone a MAJOR improvement in the last 10 years and that's evident in the class of people that it draws. The audience and support from families, the climbers, the volunteers, the administration and the support from the ISA ...all world class.
I've also seen wounded relationships restored and healed at this event and I guess that's one of the reasons that Michigan will always be my home chapter. See you all there!

bingham of detroit 11th IN the world to compete in lansing

Lansing – the Arboriculture Society of Michigan (ASM), announced that Kevin Bingham of Detroit 11th ranked in the World will be competing at the Michigan Tree Climbing Championship (MTCC) September 15, 2012, at Potter Park in Lansing, MI. Bingham earned his ranking at the International Tree Climbing Championship (ITCC) held earlier this month in Portland, Oregon.

Kevin Bingham will be competing against a field of top Michigan Tree Climbing Professionals to hold on to his 2012 MTCC first place title. Kevin will be challenging professional tree climbers such as Lucas Drews of Trufant, MI who is ranked 3rd in North America.

Top professional tree climbers both male and female from all over Michigan will compete to be the one (1) Climber representing Michigan at the 2013 International Tree Climbing Championship in Canada. This is a unique opportunity to see professional tree climbers and ITCC world ranked Bingham in action testing their speed, endurance and safety in a simulated work situation while in a tree. Judges come from all over the United States to have the honor and pleasure of judging the Michigan climbers.

Kevin Bingham owns and operates Singing Tree LLC, a sustainable, low impact, full circle, urban forestry service in Detroit. He has climbed trees, rocks and other things since childhood and has been climbing professionally since 1996.

Arboriculture Society of Michigan (ASM) is the Michigan Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). ASM is the professional organization which represents arborists, urban foresters, professional tree workers/climbers, and others who are interested in arboriculture and the health and care of Michigan’s trees. ASM’s members have been professionally organized since 1926. The Michigan Tree Climbing Championship (MTCC) began in 1993 from humble beginnings and has grown to be one of the top recognized Tree Climbing Championships in the United States. www.asm-isa.org

Dawn and Jeff and company have done an amazing job with the ASM. There's a lot of other chapters who could learn a lot from this Michigan crew. They put in so much time with the climbing competition with sponsors and techs and judges and it's just an amazing event. This is just a small portion of what they do. The programs outside of this are quite a job and quite a great opportunity for those in the chapter to advance. My hats go off to Dawn, Jeff, Vince, Kristian, and anyone else who I have failed to mention.

Thanks Tyler! Really appreciate the kudos! Nancy Carpenter, Executive Director, of ASM got this in the Lansing News!!! It takes a bunch of us to do the MTCC!!
I will pass on your words of praise!!
