AWSOME! Thanks for the step-by-step. Cleared up ALL confusion!
...wait a minute!... What's that?!!...
(rummage in the bag)...
...Turns out I have one of those!* :numberone:
Trying this again!**

I guess I didn't see!
Thanks for clearing that up (...looking forward to another pic though)
Id be interested to know if the same could be achieved with knots instead of splices? Would the bulk interfere with the functioning of the ring maybe? I don't have the right to work on my own splices...
Love the look of this setup:
, it's compact! but, I tried reproducing it with what I had at hand and:
And it would invariably 'flip' into this configuration!!
...Functions fine still, but the line running across the barrel like that can't be ideal right?!!..must be tying it wrong!
...and...
I've found Caritools (large) are fine for top handle saws only!
ANYthing bigger and I prefer to short-hang it on the climb line, or the tree!! Thing seems very flexible, to the point that the saw can slip right out of it!!
...the small version would break! so don't buy even ONE of these, not...

Job: deadwooding a bay. Ring barking caused by rats! (...Lots of helmet pruning of dead twigs.) not ideal.
Findings: Cons = as suspected, that extra friction around the limb really sucks. Adjusting...
I tried 10mm OP as lanyard fodder quite recently. It's true it compacts like a dream and daisy-chains like plaited hair! But it's ware-resistance in this function was terrible! Sliding on and grabbing a climb line is what it's for. After only 1 month most of the thing, around 75% of 7-8 meters...
Meanwhile...
Concerning lanyard spaghetti.
The truth is, it's only maybe two-three times a month! that I really need ALL my super long complicated lanyard, so most of the time between half and three quarters of the thing is dead weight! However. Most of the time I am working with...
