    Ronin Battery Powered Ascender

I really like the device as is. I would be budgeting for one if it was mid line attachable. My other suggestion for the ronin to be more arb friendly would be to use a battery system they already have. Like others have stated, if it used the same battery that the high end electric saws use it...

You are right about the potential for internal disaster. If you milk everything as you go and keep it from being pulled tight in the eye, you will be fine. For now just cut them at mark 2 and use a piece of whipping twice for your stitch. It works the same. A light crossover lock stitch will...

    Ronin Battery Powered Ascender

I don't picture running rope as an issue but a stationary rope being worked over a solid surface will get eaten trough pretty quickly. If you are anchored to a fixed point and swinging from side to side, such as in roofing, this creates a bad situation. The same small segment of rope can get cut...

    Ronin Battery Powered Ascender

We do protect our ropes in trees. It is called a friction saver or a lowerable TIP. I also have a leather rope sleeve on my lanyard. FYI, a rope will eat through the bark of a tree so we do it to protect our ropes and the tree. I see the one edge protector used in your video, in one of 2...

With tachyon, I like to do the cover bury first. Then taper the cover. Next pre taper the core. Then pull the core through and measure and trim it. Most instructions will have you do the core bury first then the cover. I also take the three inner strands out at mark 2 and use them to stitch the...

Have it your way. I protect my ropes. After all it is MY ass on the line.

    Ronin Battery Powered Ascender

Am I the only one cringing at the ropes with no edge protection? Those shingles will eat through a rope under tension. Beside that, the device looks right at home doing that kind of work.

    How Many Misses......

I can throw to sixty feet because I only have my arm and shoulder. I am going to make a throw bag launcher one of these days. Maybe I can use potatoes to test my prototype. Once in a tree I was trying to make a second TIP for a traverse and I pulled a whole mess of dead oak limbs and a birds...

X2 on Brocky's comment. Nothing wrong with it. The only issue here is that you are crazy enough to splice used 16 strand. Make sure you give it a good lock stitch to prevent slipping.

Keep in mind, that is a picture and not a video. Those crazy dingos are afraid of the little kitty. They are getting better together, at least when the dogs are tired.

I think as long as you meet the intent of the manufacturer you should be fine. Use a thread of similar size and strength and don't worry about material. I have used 550 cord for whippings the ends of big rope and to cover the lock stitching. It works great.

    Washing ropes

X2 on the tub. I have used a big tub full of warm water and laundry detergent. It works wonders. Rinse several times and the all the sand particles will fall out.

    Cord vs Rope terminology

Maybe a cymatic ascender could get us to the top of a tree with the right chord. I will keep checking climbinginnovations.com to see what develops.

I can only imagine how poorly a hitch chord would work in my climbing system.

    My first splicing steps

As a beginning splicer you need to be very careful. You don't want to get addicted. As you splice new goods you life could unravel into a pile of yarns. Don't let the hobby consume you financially. Buy rope scraps on ebay to practice on. I would recommend starting with 1/2" double braid to get...

    Retrenchment and Mistletoe

Live oaks are by far my favorite tree with the cypress a close second. The strength and grain structure of the live oak was known to ship builders around the world. That is why, in the days of wooden ships, countries like France and Spain wanted large tracts of the north american south east...
