Angie's list vs. Craigslist and other ads

"That might be worth indicating to people." Yeah, I go into waaaay specific details in my ad, cause I'm a small biz and I need people to know what NOT to expect LOL. Also I cipher my phone, cause goodness gracious I already get TONNES of SPAM (i spell tons like that cause i get SPAM by the...

Angie's list vs. Craigslist and other ads

Craigslist is thee best investment in terms of local advertising. It's $5/month. God almighty how the heck can you beat that? I've been getting jobs from craigslist, semi-steadily, for nearly a decade. The fact that Craigs is geographically partitioned up by the login itself really helps...

Problem insects to look out for when disturbing wood piles

it's so cool you were able to grab that snake for a foto-op. i try to catch garter snakes all a time, but usually the older ones are too fast and i can't get 'em. how did you manage to grab it? i'm always thnking, 'if i try to slow it up by holding a piece of brush down against it i might...

Thinking about a mechanical acsender upgrade - but not without testing it

I'd like to thank you all, weighing in. Some of the things I'm curious about, I now have at least prelim answers to, e.g. how the hardware might not like non-approved loading scenarios. What Tom said, i have to reply: Anyone getting into tree climbing on rope, even for recreational purposes...

Thinking about a mechanical acsender upgrade - but not without testing it

There are a few things that work really well for me, with a conventional split-tail setup. one is, i am able to shorten the reach distance to my prusik by removing my tail. when the lion's share of the ascent is done, i can shorten it so now the friction hitch is extremely close to me. this...

Comment by 'MikoDel' in media 'Ascender & Pulley for Tree Climbing_Easy mechanical advantage_Petzl Basic_ISC Fixed Plate Pulley'

i've looked around, and i cannot find the xact piece of gear you're using that's attached to your saddle bridge. itz obviously some kind of an 'up-lock' device, as you are hanging there peacefully before you even attach your 'homegrown' contraption. but that homegrown thing is pretty cool...

Wear and tear on my Treemotion Evo, 2019 - new saw attachment points

Thanks for the heads-up Champ. I'll take a look @ these. I did try the plastic ones awhile back, what R they again... Caritool? something like that. didn't like them. these are much better. yes for sure, the way rock exotic attaches to the saddle can't be beat. no way that's ever gonna...

THEFT - ALL 4 of my saws

Turns out a big part of the problem w/the oil starvation was my lack of following the manual's instructions. Stihl says "always operate @ full RPM". well, a lot of the time, I wasn't. mostly to save fuel, i would cut small stuff @ 1/2, or a little more than 1/2 speed. or maybe if for some...

Wear and tear on my Treemotion Evo, 2019 - new saw attachment points

I hadda rethink the screwlink attachment points on my Treemotion Evo, that i use as saw hangers. there was a rip starting in the saddle pleather material on the right side. i guess i don't use the left as much, as no tearing there. At first I tried putting a large screwlink a little further...

MS201T-CM makes nasty, oily, black exhaust discharge

thanks fudda input, all. the culprit was, i had removed the spark screen. and from within that open wound, oily nonsense emerge-eth. On this saw, I have found that if you leave that orifice open, you get da SPOOGE. (thank you Bart fudda technically correct terminology ) I viewed a...

I've named my telescopic reach tool...

I LOVE YOU! ROTFLMAO!!!!! That looks like a GREAT one. Really cool find, thanks so much!!! Rigid hooks, & choices for hook design - very important. I think I'm gonna go w/the GRAB IT hook. The reach tool i had before this one had a 'bendy' wire hook that would straighten and let go when I...

I've named my telescopic reach tool...

What else, right? Ha! She's very good to me. This puppy is as indispensible as my positioning lanyard and handsaw. I bent it slightly, by accident, and that actually helps to keep the wand telescoped. Cause the locking 'threads', or however it works, seem to wear out on the thinner parts...

Distel hitch... Ba da ba ba ba (I'm lovin' it)

A stationary rope, as in SRT? Sorry if I'm dull but I'm not quite getting you. I ascend/descend DRT, everything's moving. Ya know, if you've been doing this a long time, like I'm sure you have, you just EXPECT certain things to happen a certain way, if they fall into the category of rote, same...

MS201T-CM makes nasty, oily, black exhaust discharge

Reluctantly I had to buy a 2nd new tree saw after I was robbed. The new 194T I just got was in for repairs (no bar oil flow) and I couldn't wait, so I purchased the latest 201 top handle saw, which unfortunately has a catalytic converter. Hey, Stihl is saving the planet. One little tree saw...

Distel hitch... Ba da ba ba ba (I'm lovin' it)

I tried the Micho today. I learned it from a nifty 50 sec vid on Utube, made a little composite of screen caps and emailed myself so I had a reference outside. I climbed a locust tree and set some rigging for a big hanger that I have to cut down. That's all I was able to accomplish today - I...

TreeMotion Evo - saw attachment point idea

Well, yeah. Xactly. Time for a saw lanyard I think. I dropped the 194T a few days ago when it got stuck in a sizeable lateral drop. I tried to clean up the wedge cut, but it was a difficult angle to see, and i just wanted to move on tudda next... pinched the bar and down it went. hit the...

Distel hitch... Ba da ba ba ba (I'm lovin' it)

Yeah, there have been times when i went "WOOOOAHHHH!!!!!" ... sideways... very fast. but as far as i can tell, that can happen w/the built in DMM rings too. is that why you say it's not recommended? cause very low friction L/R movement? well, i'm very aware that it can swing easily...

Distel hitch... Ba da ba ba ba (I'm lovin' it)

Well, can we talk? (insert Joan Rivers...) I have come to NOT LIKE the Distel as much as I thought. One of ya'll mentioned "it binds". YES, IT DOES. It was beautiful for rec climbing, but for working, i found it got super tight. i used both Ultra-Tech 8mm and HRC 10mm i2i prusiks over...

TreeMotion Evo - saw attachment point idea

Oh i get it. good way to manage that. I don't use a saw lanyard. I think I need to cause i dropped my little 194T the other day when it caught in a Dutched wedge cut and MIRACULOUSLY it was unhurt.
