    Hidden Costs of Ownership

Other than the general maintenance, there are major wear items that are a huge expense. If your buying new you would not need to worry for a while but Id look at used machines closely. When we bought our stick, it went back in almost immediately for around $30k plus in repairs. Luckily the...

1997 Ford F Series Ariel Lift Rear Mount

Never seen the truck and Im just speculating from the pics that its clean. But I will say that we have a 2009 with over 8000 hrs so in comparison that truck has seen little use for its age. Also, what is $37k ? That truck new is likely $120k Im guessing? We have a new elevator on order and...

    Epic VA Treemek Build

Costumer support is key with everything mechanical! Im seeing this more and more with the equipment we purchase and the follow up the dealer gives post sale. Its clear that Pallet is putting a serious impact on the market. The Tree Mek is a big plus and although Im not sure we would use it...

    Coffee Coffee Coffee

Coffee equals sanity here! Four young kids at home and self employment drives me to about four large cups a day! No nicotine anymore also led me to more coffee. Strong, decent stuff only no toilet water aka (dunkin donuts!)

    Epic VA Treemek Build

Steve, curios if you looked at the Effer's at all before you went with the Palfinger and what may have influenced your decision. Im just starting to look at Kbooms (currently we run a 38 ton stick crane). I know you did your homework so any input would be appreciated. -Jason

1997 Ford F Series Ariel Lift Rear Mount

With all the guys on here looking for used buckets I think this should be a quick sale. Looks like a nice clean truck! 7,500 hrs for that year is NOTHING! Good luck with the sale.

    Finance options

How do you offer it Jon? You mention that verbally or in the contract?

    Finance options

We do. Same thing, we eat the 2% charge but people tend to pay right away which makes it worthwhile. I just was thinking it would be nice to have as an option if needed. If someone needs $10k in tree work, that can be a big purchase. Possibly larger than a credit card limit.

    Finance options

Who's offering finance options for their clients and what banks are you using? As our jobs get larger and larger, it makes sense to at least offer the clients an option.

    How cold is too cold?

Good thread. We have had our ass kicked the last 3 weeks or so here in MA (finally warmer this week). Temps hit -15f a couple nights plus wind and getting equipment that wasn't in the heated shop going was a joke. Hind sight we should have called it but we pushed through. Although the...

Request for advice on new bucket, Altec vs Versalift vs Terex. Gas vs Diesel

X2 on the Freightliner with cummins. We have a rear mount with elevator on order as well. Hoping to see it in March. A bucket is a significant investment so I really consider longevity and even resale when I make a purchase. Personally Im considering the gas option in a chipper but wouldn't...

    Key storage

Great input. I think the big board by the door with a place to leave your own keys makes the most sense. Something bigger as a tag will help as well I think so that its awkward in a pocket or too big to put in a cup holder of another truck. Right now we have a smaller lock box so its hard to...

    Key storage

Having some issues with employees taking keys home and or leaving them in other trucks etc. Even with spares etc Im looking for a way to fool proof this. A friend of mine has a system that makes an employee put there key in before it releases the truck key and then won't return it until the...

    WTB: rear mount bucket truck

All I know is that I see the prices used rear mounts are bringing (ridiculous)!!!!! I saw two 75'ers listed last week for over $130k- Before you even consider that, Id call UOS forestry......As far as track lifts go, Ive never run one and Im sure they have their place (if you own a bucket as...
