Re: Stump Grinder Shieldsi
4x8 1/2" plywood halved to 2 4x4 then fastened together with 2 or 3 heavy long triangular hinges. use 4 or 6 1 foot pieces of 2x3 or 2x4 lumber as backing to screw the hinges to.
Paint the wood and it will last a several years outside. Nice folding shield that stands...
i've worn a saddle as fall protection and kept a long enough length of rope to rappel to the ground from full height with a rescue 8. Truck fire, break down, run out of gas. Whatever, who needs to be stranded. And guess what. Most people think I'm crazy like that's never gonna happen. Good thread.
Have some climbing and rigging gear for sale. Some used lightly used, like new etc... slings, carbiners, climbing and riggging rope, raw lengths for diy slings, 5/8 pulleys, maybe an extra saddle and spikes, throw line/bag. I know a few of you guys are near the marlton nj area. So pm me if...

Thanks for the feedback. Whatever the cause I will ease up on the log chipping and go back to cutting and loading the larger pieces. I'll check the drum for water. But it seemed to run smooth last time I used it. I've seen that thing buck when water infiltrated the drum after it went unused for...
No seize. Just cracked housings. I checked the belt tension in the past using a tension meter tool. It seemed to be about right according to specs. I'll re check it. How about the bearing mounting bolts being too tight? I didn't do them last time. Morbark tech said that the repetitive impact of...
I give them a pump of grease about every 5 hours of operation. I've been rip cutting in half logs that seem over a foot in width. If the halves are still wide I'll cut about 3/4 of the way through and they split as soon as they contact the knives. Then I chip each piece separately. I had 2...
I didn't like the bridge from day 1 of getting the saddle. The bend radius over the biner, the splices. I eventually tied a length of tachyon rope with buntline hitches along side the bridge and clipped into both. Recently dismantled it and put 2 large aluminum rings over both. It's easier to...
I learned to start short with a loopie. Throw it around the trunk. Throat in one hand and block in the other. Wiggle and pull on the throat and you can adjust it out to just the right length to get the block snug. Once it's wrapped they are hard to shorten, unless maybe it's smooth bark. I...
Regardless of his experience, he seems to have done well considering the risk of working with all that brittle wood overhead. Pieces can just break off. Thumbs up to him and you.
