The tree I posted is one of a few hundred maples on the property, most of which can't be pruned from the ground. Climbing is half the fun anyways, right?
Baking soda...no kidding, thanks for that tip!
I'll do some continued research on negative rigging today...now that I think about it, I have seen someone take down a conifer that way on YT.
You're absolutely right, and I'm no real hurry to cut into my maples. I'm assuming one summer of...
Well look at that, same city and generous enough to offer up a visit...wow. PM sent!
So with my last few minutes of sunlight, I tossed the line over a 6 foot limb and proceeded with climb one...the mosquitoes eventually won the fight, but I got a few trips in before they did their damage.

Duly noted, southsound. I wouldn't attempt this job on my own yet, but still wanted to bounce the scenario off of the vets here.
When you say keep all loaded ropes below and away... I understand installing the block (or a redirect) away so that neither the rope nor the limb swing back...
As far as I can tell, they are silver maples, I have roughly 60 or 70 of them just in what I consider my 'yard', and then a few acres of nothing but woods. I'm located in SE Wisconsin, this is me, almost 5 acres and 4 of them loaded with maple trees. I don't want to risk the overall health of...
Alright, gents...I have my first real world scenario question. This tree is going to be one of my initial problem children, and I'm curious to see if my inexperienced assessment is even close to how you all might approach the climb and cut. The circled limb hangs over my garage, and I think...
Thank you coal and colb! Your input is greatly appreciated!
Circle of death...sounds like a bad afternoon. From what I can find online, I'm assuming the tree splits vertically and crushes the climber against the tree via his/her own lanyard?
I do need to find and watch more 'what not to do'...
Thanks, Dragonslayer. I know I didn't buy the best stuff available, but for a newbie, I just wanted to pick up gear that I knew wasn't unsafe junk, while not breaking the bank...who knows, maybe I get 30 feet into my first tree and realize it looks like more fun than it really is! I realize...
Hello climbers!
So I'm new to tree climbing and looking to learn. I recently purchased a new home on 5 wooded acres and I decided that learning to be my own arborist will be better than shelling out thousands for someone else to do the work. As a first real goal, I have 5 or 6 very large...
