Salsco 6" Tracked Chipper - price drop - $24,000

Hello TreeBuzz! Long time looker, first time posting here.

We’re selling our niche 6” Salsco tracked chipper. This is the original Taz Track chipper, now Track Chipper, as seen here..

637 current hours on this original chipper from 2012.

This machine is very short, compact and strong for its size with a 35hp Kubota diesel power unit (the new ones are only available in gas). It has non-reversing autofeed (all new speed sensors).
Chipper can be used while still attached to the purpose-built Dexter portion axle trailer. Crank swivel chute makes fly chipping pretty easy.

Slow/medium/fast chipping bar setting speeds, neutral, and reverse.

Overbuilt, all steel disc chipper with a 6x12" opening.

Will last forever with proper maintenance. Selling due to lack of use in our mostly front-country sites... our mini/12"chipper/chip truck trifecta meets our needs most days.

25,500 obo

We're located in Asheville, NC.

Negatives I've noticed:
-It's annoying loud, imo. Must throttle all the way up to drive or chip. Wear extra earplugs!
-Loading/unloading from the trailer can be sketchy without supplemental ramps/blocks.
-Six-inch capacity can be frustrating if you have a bunch of 7" trees to chip, but that's obvious :)

Sweet rig, I saw that one for sale a while back and was tempted. What kind of grade can it traverse comfortably and soil/mud etc? Approx weight?

Thanks! It weighs ~3960 pounds, heavier than our ditch witch!

It has similar abilities to our mini skid and even with 60% life left in the tracks it has done pretty well in not getting stuck. Fits through small gates, but certainly has its tipping limits on anything off-camber.

Agreed, the single roller and no lift/crusher are both a bummer for sure. You of course adapt to avoid overloading it and angle cut larger logs just like any more basic 6” setup, but the diesel power really makes it feel more able than other small models out there.
Not to mention you’re chipping with the freshness of not having just dragged brushmountain out of the back yard to the street!

My lil 9” 44hp diesel has dual feed wheels but the upper is just a counterweight without springs or hydraulic crush. Totally doable as a 6” mindset and springs would be a huge upgrade.
Don’t tell osha but I’ve been known to jump on the counterweight for a little extra crush power.

What a cool little machine, I'm sure for the right outfit it would be great.

It would be so great for our kind of island work, no rds, easy on/off barges. Just can't justify goddamnit
I think the first part is you justifying the purchase. Do it! You don't have to tell others, you can keep it a secret. Well, the barge captain might see it but that's it. lol

I hear that.

I've wanted a tracked chipper for a long while, but it's hard to justify with the amount we chip and not knowing how well it would work in our market. My mini has an expandable undercarriage that widens to 43.5" on 9" tracks and only 2680 pounds. I've barely run my big chipper in months.

Oh stop it you!
Nahh your much closer than us on the west coast, likewise the average parcel I work is a couple acres to 40. Often the ground isn’t conducive for a chip truck and chipper. Chips are wanted over left brush.
If I boated equipment I certainly could see how you need this, I go the other way and boat our brush subbed when warranted
