Issues with CODIT and wall 4

I remember seeing some discussion or paper about some if the issues with the CODIT theory, mostly when it comes to wall 4. Supposedly the strongest wall. This does seem to hold true with injury and wounding, but it also has its weaknesses.

Say a root infection leads to heart rot in the lower bole, does wall 4 form with inside out decays? Same when a conifer top dies, the decay seems unimpeded and wall 4 doesn’t set in.

Anyone have links to research about this? I can’t seem to recall where I have read about these limitations to the theory

I don’t! Will have to seek the book out.
Great!

It's an amazing reference book Evo.

Will make a nice addition to Shigo's A New Tree Biology as well as "The Codit Principle- Implications for Best Practices by Dirk Dujesiefken and Walter Liese.

Happy Reading!
