Yep, but I use ~1 liter MSR fuel bottles with slings and mini-biners to clip it to my saddle, or felling belt. That way if I'm working way down slope (somewhat often in the steep areas I live around) I've got a few extra tanks of gas and oil with me, instead of having to carry around my larger gas/oil jugs that live in the truck.

That’s genius. I may have to look into that.

Here is how mine are setup. Obviously red is gas, silver is oil. Paracord choked and taped in place, mini-biner on the loop to hang at what I found to be a comfortable level. The important part is the caps, with these little snap/swivel things, I can unscrew the caps in the tree while keeping them tethered so I CANT DROP THEM in the tree, but also allows me to unclip the cap-tether if I'm working on the ground, which makes them easier to take on and off when that isn't a concern.

I really like that. Very well thought through. I don’t run into that much anymore but I think it’d be good to have in the tool box. Thanks for sharing.

That's a great setup. I've had a red MSR bottle kicking around for over 20 years that I've never used, might devote it to this. Seems like a smaller bottle would be plenty for bar oil.....

That silver one was one of my dads fuel bottles from the 70s or 80s. It's true I could get away with a slightly smaller bottle for oil, I just don't fill it all the way so its a tad lighter.

Not exactly where I wanted it, but it'll do.

With that out of the way, I was able get a line to higher TIP to remove a third limb from the side of the tree toward the neighbor's house. So that's tomorrow's project.

I use cat litter buckets to store my ropes, and they weren't quite deep enough. So I cut a third bucket in half to make both buckets deeper by adding the donor top to one and the donor bottom to the other.

With all the trees nearby I wanted to be sure the top wasn't going to hit anything that would deflect it toward the neighbor's house. I got a rope around what looked like a strong enough part way up, and rigged a 2:1 ma setup on the base of the tree with a rope leading to my truck. That worked perfectly to snap off sixteen feet which fell close to the tree.

A broken branch high up hanging by a thread prompted me to go ahead with felling the tree. Careful cutting of the notch and a slight pull to the right to offset the lean toward the driveway gave me a perfect drop.

Day one of a multi-day clearing project for a new road and garage/shop. Biggest tree today was about 130' and took a 36' top (measured on the ground because I was curious), then a few logs, then dropped the rest from the ground. Customer just bought an excavator and is doing all the cleanup, which is my favorite thing.

I knew it would be some good carnage, so I actually put on my GoPro this time.
