Homemade knee ascender (new)

FYI if you size your Haas "rigid link" so ascender is by your knee you can "stow" it by keeping it on and just hooking the bungee to your leg loop attach point(?). I'll admit it flops around in the way a bit, but redeploy is just bungee back to chest, onto the rope. Trade offs. Only odd time would you keep your Haas on like that if you knew you were in for a bunch of up and down.

That looks like it would be uncomfortable every time you flexed your ankle. Sort of tugging on your upper leg when you pointed your foot down. I will stick with my bungie. But the idea is there. Just needs some work.
It sure was not comfortable. I did a lot of work to make it flex up by the knee. It never felt natural. Lots of torsion. Nothing beats what I have come up with above. I fly up rope never a slipping and I use a non locking jetstep.

As @misfit said, it limits your knee travel away from the rope, where as a bungie to your chest attachment area lets your leg go off in another direction if you need it to.
I am dying to see what @Phil has come up with.

As a teaser: I wore it when I was volunteering at the last TCC in Illinois. One of the other techs took a bunch of photos and a short explanation video and sent it to Richard. It's different enough in configuration that people seem to notice. And while it's highly customized, it is possible to make one completely from scratch for a reasonable cost of materials I think, minus the ascender body itself of course. I've made one that used the camp turbo, and for shits and giggles, one with cheapest chest ascender on Amazon. The SAKA works the best of what I've messed with.

Is the Condessa DelMar still operating down your way? Was the hot spot in the 70s as a night club. Would have been/is just south of you off of 294.

I'm not familiar with the name but a quick Google maps search says it's permanently closed.

Also, made the video early this morning. Should have it uploaded to YouTube this evening. It will be the 2nd video I've ever posted. The first was 16 years ago lol.
