New Tribe Onyx Saddle discussion in light of the newest saddle releases

There seems to be some urban legend going around that the TreeMo is not a good saddle for big removals.. I call bullshit!

You have one of the best saddles on the planet and I have my doubts as to whether the MB 2.0 is gonna be any better than your current ride when it comes to big removals.

One of the best in the biz wreaking big trees in a TreeMo.

I want saying in any way that it was bad for it, the pro is even more comfortable for extended periods of time sitting than my first one the mb 2.0 just looks extra comfortable for extended sitting/hanging.

I wasn't speaking of you specifically, just that there has been this idea among some that the TreeMo is a pruners saddle and not a good wreaking saddle. Hogwash.

As far as the MB 2.0 goes please remember that cushion does not always equate to more comfort, and the large triangle leg pads are not everyones cup o tea. I myself enjoy New Tribes leg pad design, but I have friends who fucking hate it. As I keep saying it is always best to try something before you buy because one mans dream ride can be another mans clunker.

Yea trying one before I buy will be really difficult for me as I am the only one in my group with money to drop on one and everyone already has a saddle and outside of that I have a few friend that climb but I rarely see them and we never work together.

I’m not sure I heard that rumor, but I would agree with you that it is false. We specialize in disassembling big eastern hardwoods, and all but one of the climbers I have employed over the last several years has worn a Tree Motion. It is the saddle I always recommend to new climbers I’m training, even though I prefer the Sequoia for myself.

Yep... I changed out the rope bridge for a double and used the rope I have been using on my bridges for a few years. Removed the side leg bungee, cleaned up the rear bungee layout, and cut out the red webbing tab on the waist belt adjuster (fucking hate that thing). Just need to add some small rings to the suspender points and she should be pretty dialed in...Pretty much how I ran my S.light for years...

Now you got me wondering would you go essential over monkey beaver ? I know it’s pretty petty but I’ve been kind of wanting to give monkey beaver a go being made in the USA by tree men and never been too big a fan of Teufelberger besides their saddles.

The OG MB, MB 2.0, and New Tribe Onyx are all wonderful saddles, but for me the TreeMo Essential/S. light is the clear winner with Matt's rope saddles coming in a very close second. YMMV of coarse..
 
I finally swapped the gear I keep on me from the MB to the new 2.0 this evening, and will be trying the new one out for the first time in the morning. After a few trees and a few days, I'll share some thoughts in this thread.

I certainly agree that the TreeMo is not 'just a pruning saddle,' even if that's how I use mine, with the MB for my removals. Honestly I should probably spend more time using it for spur work just for the experience and give it more of a chance.

let me know how it goes.. Never flown a MB. I wasn't fond of the gear loops, but with the new 2.0 im looking a little harder at it now.
Needs and wants... Do I really need a new saddle?
 
i own two s.lights and a valiant and therefor have time to wait for the new dmm harness.

kind of sad to see teufelbergers quality go down the drain.

Does it have the bones where the bridge attaches? Did you tie the second bridge on the lower dees? Can't really see the picture clear, I still climb on a treemotion 2018 and often think about a second bridge.

The new Treemo’s lower dees are set up to run 2 rope bridges which are independent of each other.. No bones needed. Just 2 holes and stopper knots. Simple is usually best and safest.
