Cutting through metal?

I would try to cut it down with a regular chain, in total I would invest 3 sharp chains at maximum, maybe not the newest ones. No matter what result after cutting, I would blast through it with a grinder. Even unfinished cuts can help while grinding. Shoveling a few barrows of chips is not much harder than dancing with a dull and heavy felling saw around a stump and get nothing done in the end.

Carbide chain is often destroyed by metal. I know because I've used it. The carbide inserts will chip severely or totally comes off of the chain.

My advice is to read up on what kind of edible fungi prefer the kind of stumps that you have there, and inoculate!

It looks like the wire is probably copper. It's not like you're going to be sawing through steel. It would dull your chain, but not ruin it. Compared to the cost of renting a jackhammer, I'd just dull an old chain and spend 5 minutes resharpening it.
All the cables are gone- pulled those out easy enough- there’s something bigger and badder in there. Gonna do some “digging” with old chain next rainy day…

love the inoculation idea- gotta bring this puppy down to grade to move the fence to the property line.

Fire departments also run demolition chainsaws that have big carbide slug teeth, like tiny stump Grinder teeth. No link for You but some searching would find it

Just sell that small piece of your property to your neighbor and put up the fence on your side of the stump. That way you make some sweet money on the deal instead of spending it, and you only lose a couple feet of real estate.

If your wife has poor depth perception, you could probably impress the heck out of her by completing it in less than a day while she’s at work. Then you can take her on vacation with the money you made.

Thant’s what I’d do.

And if she ever asks, just say “that was like that”.

Then your wife starts researching the Mandalla Effect....and slowly but surely begins to drive you crazy....and you regret all previous decisions.

I knew it was only a matter of time before I received some truly sage advice.

Mike! I haven’t seen you around in a minute. Maybe I haven’t been around? How’s things?

I should have clarified...

Low stump it as much as possible with an expendable chain and if you can't cut it all the way free, split it off with a maul.

An angle grinder may be needed for the metal.

Same cut as much as possible and then forks on a mini and try to pop it or spin it
(If a machine is Accessible)
And repeat with stumper

Drill a hole all the way down through the stump. Then insert a pressure washer and wash out a cavity under the stump. Let dry. Then pack the cavity with your explosive of choice and detonate.

We save our old worn out chains and bars, for shit like this.
we typically slap one on, cut low as possible (sometimes digging below grade first).
If the metal is hit which is likely take a splitting maul and a few splitting wedges and bust chunks off to the curf.
Bring a sawzall, angle grinder, big ass cheater pipe, etc.. leverage is your friend.
If you have a couple of saws than can run the same bar, switch frequently and have the second person ‘touch up’ the buggered chains.
It doesn’t take much of a Nick in the steel to start bending it back and forth
A stump that size will probably take a good few hours.
