Ditch Witch SK900

On the topic of brush guards, does ditch witch have plastic hoods? It looks like UT in the pics, or a thin sheet metal. My mini is an older Vermeer, it's a tank with an all steel body. Newer Vermeers may have a plastic hood, I'm not familiar with the newer models.

If it is plastic, I'd definitely be looking into a brush guard as well. I've had too many, too big of pieces, slip from the grapple and sometimes hits the machine

The Ditch Witch machines I’ve run have all been steel hoods, and much more durable than Vermeer. The new Kubota has a plastic hood though.

Slightly off topic but does anyone own one of these bumper guard grills that go over the hood? I have a sk800 and would love to get one but ditch with doesn’t know Shat about it??
Just had one put on our 1550 last week
Unfortunately we haven’t used it this season yet
We only bring our 1550 on large jobs and our stumper and 650 tx fit on the same trailer where the 1550 and stumper does not so the Vermeer goes out a lot more often
so I will keep you updated
Our 900 is getting one also but we are waiting on side panels to come in before we take delivery

@TreeBAKER thanks for sharing that. After posting I contacted ditch witch corporate and they found the brush guard but said it only fits on 1050,1550, and 900 and wouldn’t tell me if it could be retrofitted on the 800 or give me a price because there not my local dealer.

The whole local dealer crap with chippers and machinery is kind of BS. Allows each vendor to set prices and no one has to share, and your stuck with who your area dealer is. Monopoly railroading BS.

Hood is steel but as @Jehinten said stuff falls out of grapple or back of truck from time to time and the poor hood takes a beating. Brush guard would be a bad ass addition!

Possibly an option for you, many people with side by sides get custom built brush guards to protect their headlights and hoods from a roll over. You may have a off road shop near you that could fab something for you, either similar to the one that you looked into or of your own design.

I have that brush guard on a 2019 SK800, so don’t know what they are talking about. I had mine as a haggling add on, think msrp was about $800 then?

Nice machine! Glad to see they actually exist.

After another vague conversation with the Ditchwitch dealer I thought I’d give Vermeer a call, now we’ll have a ctx100 delivered second week of May. I can live with that!
Congrats

What a great machine, looks sharp. The front brush guard has the perfect width to install a chainsaw scabbard/holder. Saves putting it on the ground or by one’s feet.
