Mecanil Remote control

Hello,

I’m wondering what you guys have done to have your remotes mounted to your Palfinger remotes that seem to work the best.

Also
The dealer who put this all together told me it wasn’t possible to have the saw work with just the palfinger remote. I’m wondering is there a way to do it? He didn’t seem to have a lot of experience with them as it was the second they have sold.

Pictures and advice would be great!

Thanks in advance.

I have both my saws programmed on my remote I have a PK40. I have a 160&220 Dealer doesn’t know much about them obviously. It is possible

Joe made a nice mount but why not just have the saw programmed to the remote like a ton of us have. ;) Don’t get me wrong it’s nice what Joe made but there’s no reason to have anything extra on your remote if you dont have to
This is the best option that I have seen.

I agree...just couldn't remember if it was possible with a Palfinger. I wouldn't run it any other way on my Fassi.

But there is some advantage to separate remote, signal wise. With a separate remote it communicates directly with the saw head.

With it being part of the crane remote it has to go back to the crane, and then our to saw head. I've had minimal issues with this, but at times there appears to be signal issues (full stretch over a house and you are standing close to saw head).

My saws are directly operated through the Palfinger remote. reach out to Rick Yoos on instagram. No signal issues the the new truck. I had issues with the last truck with the 160 saw function.

For you guys that have the saw programmed through the paddle remote, what paddle(s) do you use on the remote? If every paddle on my remote already has a crane function, is this still possible?

I've programmed it a few times. It requires making a jumper and disconnecting and reconnecting wires. I still have the jumper but have forgotten the actual procedure. I personally hate using the Mecanil Remote.

Fassi here not Palfinger, and probably also a different brand remote.

Top is my new remote (8 paddles...last 2 for grapple functions along with 3 buttons on the side of the remote)

Bottom was my original remote (6 paddle), that I quickly got changed (A. because I ordered a 8 paddle. B. I felt it was more dangerous). This 6 paddle remote could still run all functions of crane and grapple, but I had to hit extra buttons to change up the controls/paddles)

8 paddle button lay out. Paddle 7 rotates grapple. Paddle 8 pinches grapple. Side button one tilts grapple up (has to be done while grapple pinch paddle is being activated). Side button 2 tilts down (again grapple pinch has to be activated). Side button 3 is saw function (only works while pinching paddle is pressed).

Thanks Steve, that makes sense. Are the tilt functions programmed with the buttons as well? I would be terrified to mess with the wiring in the crane remote!

Thanks for the pictures and the info climbhigh. It is a different remote, but the concept sounds exactly the same. Did your remote come programmed with the grapple saw functions or is this something you had to do/have done afterwards?

I figured the remote was probably different, just wanted to show it is still possible with a 6 paddle remote...though definitely not ideal.

My crane shop did all the programming for both remotes, while building the crane.

Tilt is one of the toggles under the grapple rotate and squeeze. I'll try to remember a pic Monday

Second to left paddle is grapple squeeze. Last is grapple rotate. Left yellow arrow is saw activation. Cuts when button is pressed. Stops with release. Right arrow is saw tilt. Push to left to dump. Can dump with grapple open or close function. Right to raise just like the other. Either way paddle open or paddle close. The saw function also works pressing the paddle to open but the bar extends slower and chain barley moves. It’s all done with the remote programming with the Palfinger computer program. The use of the crane remote happens when using the jumper on the transmitter on the column and the receiver in the saw. You have to trick it with jumper wires when programming the saw receiver from the crane remote instead of the Mecanil remote. The Mecanil remote has to be off with the batteries removed
