Congratulate me! I think that I just got a deal of the decade, or century. 16K!

If it’s rust free then it probably has been replaced. Hopefully they did the manifolds at the same time as well as the rear main seal
my bad. was looking at the tranny pan. the oil pan is the same as F350. Looks good, no rust. did the oil change. that poor oil pan must be made of very light sheet metal. if you torque the drain plug just a little hard, you can see it's being distorted! Also, checked everywhere, still no rust, even the rocker panel, wheel well.

Fwiw Erwin, I'm friendly with some late 90s and early 2000s f550s and they're doing well in Buffalo (salt/ rust-belt). A few hundred bucks for yearly undercoating is nothing compared to cost of replacement.

Isn’t an 03’ a 6.0 motor and not a 7.3 like we are looking at? Unless yours was built early in the year
Yep, it was the 6.0 diesel. One mechanical headache after another. I kept pouring money into it until the leaking gasket situation. That was the last straw. I traded it in on a Chevy.

you know what they use for the undercoating, oil like thing called "fluid film" or real paint, like por15? I'm planning to do routine Fluid Film. Thx

My neighbor makes his own with candle wax or parafin dissolved in mineral spirits, diesel fuel or kerosene to make it sprayable, and a cheap harbor freight spray gun.

Paying a professional to do might not be too expensive though, and unless you have a vehicle lift, they can probably get the nooks and crannies better.

It might suck cleaning up after.

Thanks for the welcome Tim, I appreciate it. There's definitely tons of reading and alot of knowledge here. I've gotten lost in some old threads and haven't even scratched the surface :)

Though often grim and sad, the "awakenings" forum in particular can share some important information and allow us to learn from other's accidents and near-misses.

Injectors failing due to a bad tank liner? I have a 2001 F-250 and never heard of a tank liner...can you elaborate?
There is a filter sock that those tanks have. It’s known for Disintegrating with time and getting stuck in the injectors or causing the pump to fail. Most people remove it altogether when they drop the tank to fix the problem. Also, some of the tanks do have a painted or coated liner inside the tank. It can be replaced with an aftermarket tank without the coating.
