Unicender $ 200

Yea Brother, it was me that I happened to buy from Frank. But I'll keep my ears to the rail for another member. I'm Multiscender'd out! That's a great price for a Rec Use Device, nonetheless! Thanks for the heads up, though! [emoji106]

Before I bought this I asked the seller if there was carving or scratching in the metal and his reply was "just the anodizing" which was not true as I found out as soon as I opened the box. He says he stands by his description, and to post pictures in the forum and see what you people think. Zoom in.

If there is a better place in the forum for this let me know.

The most important place to look for wear is on the faces of the clutches. Where the rope runs them. Expect more wear on the top clutch

There is evident wear on the Uni. Is it enough to be concerned about? I don't know.

Only your first pic throws a flag for me. Then again pics are hard to tell the tale sometimes. If it's gouged then I'd be worried. If it's only the anodizing it's fine. I wish the manufactures would choose function over fashion. Sure the gold is pretty but if it was hard anodized, (like the X-rings), there wouldn't be any rope wear for quite some time.

My issue is not with safety, it's with misrepresenting the condition of an item on treebay- there is a lifespan on the unicender, and it is worn way past "just the anodizing"- there are also deep scratches- evidence of it being treated roughly, like maybe used with a steel twist gate.

The description said "lightly used by rec climber"

Hard to tell by pictures, I know the anodizing does flake, But the first and second picture looks like wear from descending. Mines worn in the same place on the bottom, but mine worn more so. It's fun but when you bomb down fast the rope creates a lot of heat in those two places. I go slower now but eventually you need to get a rebuild.
Maybe it was light use but acquired second hand as mine was.
To by honest it really is between you and the buyer. People can get any answer they want on the internet.

I emailed Rock Exotica about rebuilding my old one, but got no reply- any suggestions?

Give them a phone call and then another one. If they don't respond to emails or phone calls make a post to draw attention to it. They need to stand behind their products and I'm sure they will First give them a reasonable response time.
Also could ask treestuff.

You're swimming in some grey water there, if you didn't buy it brand new then you don't have many options. You bought a used product at a used price.

As for misrepresenting??? Don't all advertisers stretch the truth a bit to sell you their product?

I would say the wear in the pics is fairly typical. Mine looks way worse than that and still functions properly. Without a close personal inspection I'd assume the device to be fit for use but don't take MY word for it.
