Anyone else have trouble with this helmet? I dreamed of buying it ever since it first came on the scene, but just never bothered because my Petzl vertex worked just fine. Went for it finally, and am so disappointed, it just doesn't fit my head?! Is this even possible? I have the adjustment maxed out for size and it still clamps down too tight, it leaves big red marks on my forehead and gives me a headache after 5 minutes of wearing it. Even with the clamp not engaged the headache still shows up. Very sad about this, has anyone had a similar experience?

Obviously not a design flaw, just my big ass head?

I had a similar issue, but found it was mostly the shape of my head (I think). If I would push in on both sides of the helmet, it took away the pressure on the forehead. Once I wore it enough to reshaped the head strap, often unlocked, I can now wear it all day with no problems. Every once in awhile, it still happen...on swollen head days I guess...but minor compared to how it was.

Not a fan of the helmet...went back to my beloved Kask...but it has a lot of adjustment...hey if it does not work out an easy sale on treebay...with a slight loss..that is where mine went....certainly not for everyone...like chainsaw pants....detest them....and chainsaw boots..they can all fuck themselves....lol...not very helpful..but a nice rant for me.....

I wanted one for so long I'll keep on trying it out for short periods of time. It gives me an INSTANT headache when I wear it, but maybe it will break in.

Does if feel better is you squeeze the sides in, when on and locked? Making the band more of a oval

I bought the first Retail Protos in the US.
(I have a very small "pin" head.)

Several years ago, a female posted that she could not find a helmet that was small enough to fit her.

I contacted Phanner. They said that they could / would custom make a helmet to fit. However, it would take time. Just order thru TreeStuff.
I assume that meant that they would make a custom "head band & support".

I do not know the result.

Custom size would be cool. I have to wear mine maxed out but not locked down to have enough room. When I do lock that toggle down for a few moments I sure like the added sensation of it being held onto my head.

I tried a demo our company had for a while and didn't care for it. The weight reminded me of a football helmet. I also wasn't fond of the muffs because they didn't seem to offer much noise protection.

I did like the adjustability, but it took some time to get it dialed in. The vents were another plus, as you could tell a real difference between open and closed- a great benefit in winter, I would assume. The other feature I liked was the forestry screen, which probably isn't the majority opinion, but my brief logging experience led me to prefer them since a screen saved my teeth from a springpole sapling.

Ultimately, like others, I preferred my Kask. I can choose a decibel rating, and now even have a forestry screen option. Adjustment is simple, and the right head wrap minimizes slipping and stink.

I got one as a gift and I hate it. I haven't heard anyone talk about this, what is the deal with the vertical honeycomb in the top? It seems like a really hard hit to the top of the helmet would core the scalp down to the skull. I have no idea why it would be oriented this way.

My Smith Vantage ski helmet has the same vertical honeycomb construction. I haven't given it the "ultimate test" yet, but if I ever do, I'll report back. Hopefully.

Edit: It mentioned the Koroyd protection also.

This is a pure guess ..............
1. The open honeycomb allows lots of ventilation up thru the adjustable top openings.
2. The honeycomb is very, very thin material. I guess that it is designed to collapse at detrimental loadings.
3. It does not deteriorate or get loaded up with body salts, dirt, etc as a open-foam could.
4. It is extremely light weight.

per TreeStuff:

This may be more technical than you expected in the post, but ...............

Just a suggestion ....................... read the instructions for the helmet.
There lots of adjustments. I think the weight with muffs is probably less than most other helmets.
If the muffs are there, you'll use them.

One head, one set of eyes, one set of ears, ...........

All the Best ! Stay safe.

Getting close, my old Vertex is my go to still.. I've found the Protos living in the cab of my truck for the past week. I try to wear it in the hopes that it will "break in" or I'll get used to it or something, but I can't put up with the headache I get from it being too tight.
