Yew Dell Botanical Gardens Kentucky

You may have heard that Jo Anne Fischer, Yew Dell's garden manager, has announced that she will be leaving Yew Dell to pursue private client work in the area. We will obviously miss her talent but are sure she'll do well in her new adventure.

Of course that now leaves us in need of a garden manager. I am not planning to publish this opening in garden world literature. Rather I am going the personal/informal route for now. If any of you knows of anyone who might be interested and a good fit, please drop me a note. While we are still working on the formal job description, the following bullet points will give you an idea of the range of responsibilities. It is a great opportunity for someone to build their own creativity into many aspects of Yew Dell.

· Daily maintenance of the gardens, nursery and plant collections

· Oversight of the plant collections database and plant labeling

· Oversee plant orders for spring plant sale

· Annual budget planning for hort program

· Teach occasional classes

· Work with and manage garden volunteers

· Contribute significantly to annual garden design projects

· Contribute significantly to upcoming planning projects; greenhouses, headhouse reconstruction, nursery development etc.

· Work with other staff on YD events

While nobody can be outstanding at everything, we very much need someone with a good sense of design, a great love of plants, and a love of garden making. Good people skills are essential.

Thanks for any thoughts you may care to share.
