Work shirts-Cotton vs poly blend

I've always gotten cotton work t's. I'm about to do a order in January and was thinking about a tech-t(polyester or some type of blend).

Anyone get these and how do they like them? What's the smell like. Ones I have in the past for sports seem to smell instantly.

When I sweat I smell then my clothes stink. Then they get washed and smell good.

I wouldn't care to wear cotton shirts. They don't keep me cool or warm...depending

I've tried the tech tees... Sweat beads up on the fabric and runs down your back in copious amounts, it's gross. For me, anyway. I wear smart wool or under armor type layers for cool and cold weather, and straight cotton tees in the heat. I just can't get used to the beading and dripping.

(PS - Shouldn't this be in 'Rant and Rave?')

I just filled my closet with tech tees because I wore them a couple days at the end of the season. All thrift store scores. Some have mesh and extra stretchy panels, they're made for sports so why not hard work. I think they're way dryer than cotton. I bet they have better rip resistance too.

Don't know if wearing plastic has health risks, probably not as bad drinking cola.

I do the same as Tom for the cold but in the heat I love tech tees. Someone posted about the badger tech tees in the rant and rave section and I picked up some of those. Good purchase.

On the hottest days I rotate out tech shirts and hang them on the truck somewhere. They dry out super fast and I can keep the rotation going. For me the cotton tees just never dry out.

I don't find that they smell any more or different than the cotton. My sweat used to smell awful before I worked on changing my diet to work on my body's PH. I wouldn't say I smell like roses in the summer but I do smell drastically better!

I picked up the same shirts and put logos on. Way better than cotton. Will never go back.

cotton sucks!
It gets soaked with sweat and never dries and if it gets wet and it's cool you will freeze because it doesn't insulate at all when it's wet.

It takes forever to dry after you wash it so it wastes a ton of electricity.

It rips so easily I can't usually get more than a day or two out of a cotton shirt without getting holes in it while climbing.

Cotton crops require more pesticides and other chemicals than any other crop.

I have been using polyester and nylon for work clothes for a long time now and find them to be much better than cotton.

They don't get soaked and when you do get them wet they drive very quickly they also are much more durable I have had the same 6 tee shirts now for more years than I remember and still no holes.

most of the good poly stuff I've used is treated with anti odor mine don't smell at all.

They usually will be antimicrobial, anti odor, UV blocking, moisture wicking, fast drying, temperature regulating and super durable.

I mostly use Walls work wear 100% polyester hi-viz tees they are around $10 bucks at Walmart.

I also like Ironclad's dry tees although I think they stopped making them.

Arborwears tech stuff is a poly cotton blend so they won't perform like 100%polyester.

Also avoid the loose weave Tech Wick style shirts as the fibers will pick very easily. the ones that are durable have a tight weave similar to a regular cotton fabric.

while we're on the subject I also highly recommend wool socks and synthetic blend underwear I don't wear any cotton while working and I no longer have to suffer with any sweaty moist areas it's all dry and comfy :-)

One side note if you are doing line clearance you shouldn't wear synthetics my local Electric Company told me they require all lineclearing workers to wear 100 percent natural fibers so that they won't melt to you if you have an incident.

from what I have read and seen I believe if not for the lies and payoffs we would probably have clothes mostly made of hemp apparently the fibers are far superior to anything else natural or synthetic and can be made to be as soft as silk or as stiff as metal but as long as money rules the world and chemical companies have a lot of money we will have to settle for what's force fed to us.

I like my hemp t-shirt my daughter gave me from the hemp store she worked at in Toronto.

I wear Campmor's long sleeve quick dry shirts at only $12 a piece. For most temp ranges I experience here (32-100F) they're good. When it gets below that I go to either Nike or Underarmor though I prefer the Nike since it doesn't feel cold like the UA.

Cotton is the outerlayer only because it's what the company provides. Got to have that logo out there! Plus it looks way more professional.

For the guys who bought the Badger Tech T's. Did you get them silk screened or stitched?

Get them screen printed. I stitch clothes that I want to last a long time and or makes more sense

This is the hi viz color.

+1 on everything BillN said.

I wear Badger long sleeves and even they are better than a short sleeve cotton on a hot day.

I outright refuse to where cotton tee's anymore. They feel like they actually add pounds on a hot day. tech tech tech. even in the cold, as a bottom layer, they help me sweat less.

I'm kind of over wrapping my body in plastics and oils, natural fibers for this guy! I actually like the cooling effect of wet cotton in the summer.

+1 on the natural fiber... I have an Ibex hoody that I will wear as a thick under layer in extreme cold... The best shirt I ever had was some random Ukrainian wool military surplus shirt. I wish I could get my hands on one again.
