Title: FORESTRY SPECIALIST

Duration: Job starts approximately May 23, 2011
Job Description: This position supports the field work of the urban forestry program within the region. It also supports programs of small and newly developing Municipalities within the region and is directly involved in Tree City USA, Tree Line USA, DNR, urban forestry conferences and other statewide projects. 30% - Provide information to assist communities with the development of ordinances, inventories, strategic plans, management plans, hazard tree evaluations, etc. Assist communities with forming tree boards, urban forestry councils and citizen action groups. Support communities with networking and large combined planting projects. 20% - Support the implementation of the state urban forestry grant program in the region. Review, rate and rank regions grant applications. Conduct project reviews for technical compliance, final field inspections and approvals. 20% - Manage logistics and implementation of urban forestry workshops, training sessions and field tours. 10% - Promote and manage the Tree City USA, Tree Line USA and Tree Campus USA programs. Make presentations on urban forestry topics. 10% - Provide support for urban forestry invasive species efforts such as emerald ash borer, assisting communities with both planning and response efforts. 10% - Statewide urban forestry project assistance.
Knowledge Required: Education and/or experience in urban forestry or related field, and skill in urban tree identification, measurement and evaluation are required. Urban forest program assessment and management skills are desirable. Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, and Microsoft Office Suite skills are required. Demonstrated ability to work independently and work effectively with teams and a diverse group of customers. Significant travel within Wisconsin is required.
