Why do professional fellers wear suspenders?

Nephew asked me a question the other day:

Why do the guys who cut trees down for a living (he apparently saw some west coast logging vids on Youtube) always wear suspenders?

It's not a totally ridiculous question, kid kinda does bring up a good question.

I'm guessing it's part tradition (and kinda somewhere along the lines of a tall chef's hat) and part necessity: they usually have several somewhat heavy tools on their belts that would cause the pants to migrate south throughout the course of the day.

Is that the correct answer?

Thanks.

I'm more of a climber than a logger, but I'd say your answer is pretty good. (Although, I'm not sure what heavy tools a logger actually carries on his belt.) A climber doing a large removal would really appreciate suspenders with a 460 or larger saw hanging off his harness for hours.

Better question, why don't more groundies take advantage of suspenders on slightly larger than usual cs pants?
Suspenders allow looser pants that better circulate air in hot weather, allow chips to pass and are less restrictive. They're also a big improvement for the hip and butt challenged.
Can't really load em down though because they're (most anyway) elastic.

I don't think is wise for ground man to wear suspenders working around chippers. Just something more that could catch on while chipping. Safety concern
But I do personally like bibs under my harness while climbing helps keep clothing all together especially in cooler climates
