Wow, this is a first ... I'm turning loose a new idea and it's ALREADY available commercially, at TreeStuff! Those guys are moving at warp speed out there.
Special thanks to Luke for the confidence, Nick for the design collaboration and Bill Piper for knocking me into motion on the basic idea.

As always, I have no financial interest in any of this. Thanks, guys, for doing all the posting to teach me how to climb safely ... !

The new idea is the uSLING. In its basic form, it's one of those ubiquitous tools that is "limited only by your imagination." Pimped out, it does the one thing a uSAVER can't do: midline attachment.

Basic uSLING

In this form, it's a general purpose tool like the Teuf Multisling or the ABR Utility Ring. Think of it as a loop runner that is 1)life rated and 2)adjustable. Lots of ways to use it.

Add an OmniBock for ddrt advance

In this form, it's great for short quick ddrt line advance without a throwline. Clip on a bag, hit your branch, snap the Omni above your hitch, re-clip the bag behind the ring, flip into place, reconnect and climb. Retrieve with knot, uSAVER ring or just let a spliced eye catch the Omni.

Add a LockSafe Revolver for srt TIP advance

Get any line over your intented TIP, clip it to the Omni swivel, start to pull up the uSLING, snap the srt line into the Revolver, keep pulling until you have the Omni again, clip it onto the srt line, disconnect the "throw" line, pull on the srt bight that followed the Revolver until the system is in place. Retrieve from the basal anchor side.

There are some nice features buried into the design. For example, the "captive" trick between the DMM ring and the Revolver keeps it from cross loading. Also, the single end sewn eye is sized bigger than a "tight" but smaller than a "girth" eye. The prevents the Omni from "backing out" of its girth hitch accidentally. However, it can still be dis-installed and deployed to another use by passing the full length of the sling through the girth.

A word of caution:

The uSAVER is a bomb-proof friction saver that can be deployed at a distance without supervision and it will take care of itself.

The uSLING is a much more sophisticated tool that needs to be deployed thoughtfully. It uses life-rated components and double locking hardware but you need to take great care that your deploy it without loading the Revolver gate or the button face of the Omni. If you set it properly, the rope geometry will keep it in a safe condition. But it is easy, for example, to put gate on one side and the button on the other. This is not a safe condition. My videos will pass along some tips to make this easy.

Videos coming.

Guys,

This video shows the uSLING and the build details. The production version will be available soon from TreeStuff.com.
Two more videos coming: applications as a plain sling and pimped out with Omni and Revolver as a midline attachable friction saver for DdRT or line Aadvance for SRT.

Enjoy.
