TreeMotion Caritool

Eric beware of hanging a saw off that hook. They break fairly easy, I hear.

I used the Large Caritool for almost a week and it kept sliding around: frustrating as hell. So I put a Transporter on each side, now everything stays tight and secure! No movement, at all!
Eric if you want one let me know, I have an extra one that's Brand New. Sorry for snakin' your post Coal!

DMM Vault works well too. I've never had a problem with Caritools, don't know y'all are doing to be snappin' them all the time.

I don't have a problem with snapping them, they just don't stay in place, they move back and forth with the occasional upward movement when I move through the canopy, or on descents. I don't hate them. I have just been really fond of the Transporter. There's no movement once in place. I do agree with the fact that they are strong when they're closed. IMHO.

I think it was the wire gate that was breaking when snagged on a branch. I have one on my back up 4 D ring saddle. Also use it for quick work like setting a pull over rope. Easy to adorn compared to my MCRS. Lil bit of a PITA.

The only time I have ever broken a caritool with a saw on it was when i made a huge jump from one branch to another, and the bar of the saw clipped a limb on the way over. I will add to this, i take the gate off of the CT that i keep my saw on. That CT was at least 4 years old at the time and saw daily use. It also takes the weight of my 36" MS661 when I'm forced to drag it aloft.

I run 4 regular sized ones on the belt of my treemotion, and the xl on one of my leg loops. For the cost and durability of them, i have no reason to ever switch over to one of the metal offerings on the market.

4 years?! I said this before a long time ago on a caritool thread..
Bought 3, 1 for me and 2 other climbers...ours were all broke within a month!

I've found Caritools (large) are fine for top handle saws only!

ANYthing bigger and I prefer to short-hang it on the climb line, or the tree!! Thing seems very flexible, to the point that the saw can slip right out of it!!
...the small version would break! so don't buy even ONE of these, not even to hang a tea-towel from!... However, the large version is fine, depending on what you do.I have one on my saddle dialled for light work:

...on the tree motion (my NOW dedicated heavy saw saddle), hook it behind the webbing, making sure the plastic barb on the back of the clip passes all the way behind. If your saddle is new and stiff the thing shouldn't move, (if not add a red elastic band as I did on this onyx!)

I have 2 large cartoons that have never done me wrong. Had them almost 3 years. I'll buy again when they fail..had a singing rock porter break but it was from swinging into something hard

Yeah, I was pissed when it happened as nobody in my area sold them, and being north of the 49th, it was expensive to replace. When I finally ordered it's replacement, I ordered 5 more. Now I have 4 on the belt, and one to spare. The replacements are now 3 years old, and going strong. I subject them to all manors of hatred, and they're still in fine condition. I may take the spare I have here and see just how much weight I can hang off of it before it breaks.

I have a large CT I hang my saw on but I read a post that said not to hang it through the webbing it wear's it out. I just put through the slot it moves a little but I don't think its a bad thing it won't break as easily.

I have used the large caritools for hanging saw and never had a problem. The Transporter and the Vault both looks great, but I aint gonna spend that kind of $ to hang my saw. Just wasn't sure about the proper way to attach to the Tremotion. Just goes to show, when all else fails read the manual!

You won't mind the cost of a vault/Transporter after you add it into the cost to repair your chainsaw

Erik,

I was joking of course!;) . Although I have droped saws, ironically after 20 + years it was always while they were hanging on my harness!

Well.... there was that other time, but it was total operator error....

No debate/ arguemnt here. Glad you got the info you neeeded.

I have been looking at the Transporter it is on my wish list at Tree Stuff and if you have the money that is the way to go. I am pinching pennies probably get more for a penny if you melted them and sold them as scrap. I just picked up a used MS460 and would not trust that on my Caritool. Also the Transporter will last allot longer when you hook your saw on a Caritool enough they start to wear. I work in a plastic research facility for years testing the strengths some are strong but not as strong as aluminum.

Hey TJG, if you want to save $20, I've got a 3rd Transporter that I am willing to get rid of, still attached to the cardboard data sheet. If you want it! Send me a PM, if so.
