treebuzz getting slow in the springtime

here it is, springtime. The buds are breaking, the weather is nice, why are all of the new posts about hockey and dead people? Isn't anybody getting excited about trees? I know I am. This is the time to be promoting cambium savers and talking about recreational climbing. you know, all of those new tricks we learned in the winter, but the weather was too miserable to try them out. What's new? what works? It's raining today, but tommorrow will be nice, 50 degrees and sunny sounds like some good climbing weather. At least a good day to scout out some new old trees in the local parks. Wasn't there anything you waited all winter to try? I have a few things to check out, some new second line redirects, easier ways to hoist my girlfriend up a tree, hell even to just tie in high and swing around. How about you folks? Isn't andyone else excited with the coming of the May?

you know russ, I have scouted out some parks for nice trees to climb. I found one sight in particular, at the Jacobsburg state park in Pennsyltucky. There are a couple of nice oak trees (not exactly sure which species) from which a treemendous view of the Wind GAp of the Appalachian Trail are offered. I need only recruit another climber(s) toembark on sadi mission. It isn't too far of a hike and the trees aren't huge, but nice. There is also a nice veiw of Bushkill creek below. Maybe a half mile hike from parking lot, mostly uphill.

yeah i am looking forward to some rec climbing this spring. i like to bring my camera in the tree when i rec climb ; does anyone know of a climber friendly camera bag the attaches to the saddle?

I like the bag buckingham has with the elastic top. I don't know if it has a name. Get the one with two hooks and pad it with some foam. It works well for me. Freemanruss, "E" me I am up for a good rec climb he in ole' PA.

tony, is that a general bag by buckingham or a throw line bag. i would also love to take a road trip to pa for some rec climbing, but not this time of year as the money is starting to flow again. ill try to be reminded of this in a few months.

Chad, the bag is just a general one. Sherrill has a version their's is green and yellow. They come with a draw string top as well as elastic tops. I like the elastic, less fuss with one hand. The one from Buckingham is purple and black.

I have two very nice oaks in Allentown in a yard on the border of a green belt. One is a white oak and the other...maybe a red oak? (sorry from the west). Anyways, it is a side job that I had for the daughter of the secretary at my work. She had a small spruce to come down and a little red maple, other minor stuff around. I have done all of the other work and left only the two oaks. All they want me to do is take out the deadwood, easy enough, I pulled down most of the larger pieces with my throwball and amazing Spectra line. What is left is to go up, work around the tree with a handsaw. I gave them a great deal, with the stipulation thaT I could come back with others and spend the day swinging around.
These are some great old climbing trees, mostly having grown without interference (discluding fill dirt, lawns and soil compaction, etc.) The one in the yard takes about a fifty foot footlock into a fantastic canopy with many tie ins to choose from, no targets. The other is a street tree with about twenty five feet to the lower limbs, but the road below, altough it is not a busy street, and we could definately close it off. I should get back to them pretty soon, as I would like to do it before it gets too hot.
Anybody interested? There's probably some money involved, but I doubt if it would be much, maybe we could use it to buy lunch or something(beer afterwards maybe). anyways, get back to me, e-mail if you want to.
