The slick coating on throwline.

Dynaglide is described as having a urethane coating. You can buy water based urethane coatings for use on ropes (soak and then air dry.) I have no idea if that will restore some of the original slickness. I suppose it could even make it tackier. Maybe someone here has tried it.

Have you already tried fabric softener?

I have a hank of 3/16 amsteel that I use as a heavy throw line that I can pull small trees with, but it sticks like velcro and have though of soaking it in hot wax.
Any way I'm more or less watching this thread.

As usual, this is turning out to be a more interesting question than it first appeared. Are you having trouble with the line getting snagged in branches/twigs or is it more when coming out of the throwline cube? Perhaps there are different solutions based on the problem. I initially thought beeswax would be a good way to make it slicker in the tree and smooth down some of the fuzz, but then I realized it may also make it stick together in the cube. Hmmmmmm.... Silicone spray?

Seems like oily substances would make throwline slick, but they don't tend to really dry and might attract dirt. I wonder if Pledge would dry enough to not be a dirt magnet. Cowboys apparently like talc, but that seems messy.

The coating wears off with use and the ball won't come down sometimes (especially incense cedar and snags). I end up buying a new line.

Throw weight won't come down from the initial throw? If you're hand throwing, perhaps a Bigshot or air cannon can shoot the throw weight through the tree into the clear so it will land on the ground.

No, it's happens on isolation. I know there are work arounds (ie: more weights, clearer shot, carabiner letting down another line), but the fact remains that a new line comes down easier than a worn line, so I end up buying a new line.

What throw line @Tree Lady ?
I noticed a decline in Zing-it but Dynaglide seems to be slicker, maybe it’s still new-ish.

I got a few cans of Teflon spray, wonder how that’ll hold up. It’s the only thing that comes to mind besides urethane that will dry and not end up all over my rope and hands.

The edilrig hotline retains a smooth slick surface, so far in a year plus, full time use. It also stays more round than other throw lines which would give less friction moving over a branch.

Liquid teflon should probably be a controlled substance, I’ve used it for internal chainsaw parts but I wouldn’t put that on something I’d be handling.

I have so much dynaglide in various cubes. Love the stuff. Loads of rough bark trees here. Throw 10s and isolate 12s. But add weight when needed. Especially double bagging. I use newer dynaglide on the rougher bark.
