Position Title: Urban Forestry-Environmental Planning Summer Intern

Description: A summer urban forestry internship position is available for the City of Carmel, Indiana, which provides a unique and diverse learning experience for a forestry-minded student. Job duties include working with street trees (inspecting, watering, pruning and mulching), first-hand invasive pest management (Emerald Ash Borer), reviewing and inspecting planning/zoning landscape plans for residential and commercial developments. Our community of about 85,000 people is located immediately north of Indianapolis,
Indiana. Carmel is one of the fastest growing and most dynamic communities in Indiana.

Department: The Urban Forestry Program is located in the Department of Community Services, Planning and Zoning at City Hall.

Qualifications: Valid driver’s license
Educational background: Forestry, Natural Resources, Landscape Architecture or related field Advanced plant knowledge and experience are preferred Ability to operate a personal computer with MS Office Ability and willingness to perform labor intensive activities Ability to work inside (25%), outside (75%) and in all potential weather conditions
Compensation: The normal week is Monday - Friday, 37.5 hours per week. The pay rate is $10.00-$12.00 per hour depending on education/experience. The internship normally runs from May through August, with the possibility of extending the time period.
