Stumper - rg37, Toro stx38, Carlton...

Looking to purchase a small/medium stump cutter instead of renting. Can anyone chime in on the Toro 38 or RG37 or similar, no one local has one to rent? I've used the Toro 26 and Vermeer sc30tx, they are fine and nimble but I can't do another big stump with the little Toro.... will sub it out if it comes to that.

Considering buying used and travel if anyone has anything as well. Just need a decent all around grinder and know it will take a little longer then if we have a 60-80hp diesel machine but we don't do enough to justify one of those yet.

Thanks!

I'm in the same boat as you but with a smaller budget. I've rented the toro 38. It's a sweet little machine. Can't say anything about long term use though.

Well, our budget isn't all that big, we are going to have to finance if we go with new... why machines are you considering?

I'm looking at the smaller machines. I would really like to find a bandit hb19 with a tow bar so I don't have to worry about a trailer but I called a bandit dealer and he couldn't find any information on them so I'm thinking they don't make them anymore. I found a real nice lightly used rayco 20 hd that looks pretty good.

Ah, hope you find something! When guys like us are looking for used it's really hard to find the great deals. If you can hold off for a bit, just be patient and "the deal" always comes along.

If you can look for a Carleton 4400-4. Alot of grinder for the money. I demoed several new ones before I purchased my Carleton. The toro stx-38 was very maneuverable but lacks on power. Also demoed a vermeer 362 not as maneuverable but better in power on the stump. My Carleton isn’t very maneuverable but is a beast on the stump.
