Stihl 201t

Now that the 201t has been out for awhile, thoughts, comments on them.

The newest version is supposed to be improved.

My Stihl dealer does not offer demos on any Stihl equipment, so trying the equipment first hand is not going to happen.

No one I know has made the leap to the 201, no friends saws to try or get their views on the saw.

Thanks,

Chris

haha that sums it up pretty well.i've been running one at my new job for about 2 months.there is no doubt it isn't a 200. its well built but lacks power for sure. with the exhaust and intake mods i think you'll be sastified.

Thanks for the replies.

I don't want to go with a 192t, for me, not enough guts.

It's difficult to spend $650 or so with tax on a saw that I have not run and/or don't know people that have run and like what a 201 has to offer.

There is a used 200t and a used 020 on craiglists near me. They look all but brand new. He is asking $975 each or$1800 for the pair. Said he turned down $1600 for the pair. Wow. Philadelphia CL if your are interested, I know I wouldn't be. I'm happy with my $100 020 I bought from my boss

My local saw dealer told me the 201 needs about 40 hrs of HARD running to fully break in and make some power. He said Stihl runs very tite tolerances so they get thru emissions. So tight that it really hurts the initial power they make.
Makes some sense I guess. We all know this emissions stuff is here to stay and gonna be a pain the whole time...

ive been using the 201 almost exclusively for a couple months now and my honest opinion is it sucks. no power and very cold natured and finicky. hoping this 540 xp or maybe the cs 355 is the answer. this isnt worth the money

I have 2 200ts / 3 192T / 2 009 / ms441 and ms660 All Great Saws, But 200t is powerful saw to have up in a tree where it belongs / And 441/660 are strong and go right thru logs no problem. Still using our husky,s just as much.

I hate them. I have two of them and they're pretty terrible to work with. Right now both of them have the throttle sticking on them part of the time which is ridiculous being they're fairly new. I'm ready to "accidentally" drop them.

you know what, it's as simple as this

the ms200t is an eager saw, it wants to work for you

the ms201t however, wants to go home before the work has started, it wants to sneak away and hide in the garden shed with all the other hobby/garden saws where it belongs

When I first used a 201t I was astounded by how bad it was, I am still shocked that Stihl could let an inferior product like that out onto the market.

I had the same problem. The first time a sawdust chip got stuck in the trigger axle in the handlebar. The second time water froze in that same axle. Both times jamming it while on full throttle. NOT FUNNY AT ALL.
Open up the handlebar and clear/clean out the pivot point on that trigger.

I met up with a Stihl regional rep who listened to my grips about local Stihl dealers and promised me demo's on whatever I wanted to try out.

Well, I am still waiting for a demo on a 201t and other equipment from Stihl.

These guys promise the world and then drop the ball, just as the Stihl dealers around here do.

Very frustrating to say the least.

Everyone has a different opinion and I will tell you that I do own a 201t and have never in my life owned a 200t but when your used to something that you have always used, thats what your going to like more. I have only used a 200t a few times and could care less for it since I am so used to my 201t and turthfully, in my opinion its not a bad saw at all. YOUR BET BET IS TO GO BUY ONE AND TRY IT FOR YOURSELF. Don't like it, then sell it.
