Stein Pre-tension Pulley

I'm not a big gear head, but I saw this pre-tension pulley at TCIA in Baltimore this year and I had to have one. I've playing with it for a few months now and its an inexpensive and relatively effortless way to raise small limbs and really get the slack out of the line. It also makes a great mid-line pulley for a Z-rigg. I think it costs about 95 bucks, which for a usefull piece of gear thats nothing.
I provided a link put together by Reg Coates. He's the dude that came up with the idea. Like anything else you can get out of hand with something and put yourself in a dangerous place, but if you use your head, this pulley works great.

can it work with our port a wrap that sherrill sells?

Yes, it works just fine. Best with 1/2' diameter rope. Any larger and it gets harder to pull, due the added friction of the larger diameter rope. If you want, I can take a pic.

Thanks again Reg.

Thanks

I second that...norm some pics would be great

I don't have the Stein lowering device. I use it on a large steel port-a-wrap by Buckingham and I also have used it with Ken Johnson's Rope brake which is still available through Don Blair.

I hope that was the homeowner that was doing that felling...

really good picture! you should be able to sell that one to a tree magazine.

Sorry for the delay in my reply to the Avatar question. The east coast was hit pretty hard with storm damage. The picture was sent to me from a friend and it 's the standard everyone knows how to cut down trees. you know those guys, the clueless who think they know how to remove a tree, because they watched someone once.
