splicing Tenex rope

I need help splicing Tenex rope.I'm having trouble with the bury. I've used several types of fids including the Toss wand but its much more difficult than expected.Any tape onthe ends sticks inside.I've tried 3/8'' 1/2"&3/4" and found all buries surprisingly difficlt for a seemingly simple process.Any tips or tricks from some of you expereienced splicers would be greatly appreciated.

I use the Toss wand. I do not use any tape. it helps if you fan out the end you are burrying. don't grab too much. Once in the wand turn it 180 so the bump is against the rope. Just wiggle it a bit don't force it. It should go right in.

I've made a locked brummel and a couple lock stitch eyes and was attempting top pass the tail through for a whoopie sling when I seeked some other ideas.I have the new england rope splicing site thanks. Also i'm not clear on the taper do you remove a pair of strands or single srtands?

Single strands about every 1 1/2"-2", you can bunch the rope together which helps create space inside for the bury.
You shouldn't need tape with the Toss wand.
I ravel the end, taper slightly and it works well.

Thanks guys, I've just completed a professional looking 1/2" whoopie sling. I found that if I rotate the wand back and forth with the handle as I pull, the bury slipped right through easily.Keep the tips coming though I think the threads on splicing are great and Tenex has so many possible uses.

Tenx is nice. It's lot like a sweater, they're nice but they snag real easy. Some sheilded double braid is the way to go. Maybe a few more steps in spliceing and once you master it it's pretty easy and lots of fun.

making that taper

What's important for making that taper is not if you cut one or two strands while making it. There's room for leeway and personal preference there. What IS important is that the taper is long, gradual, and smooth.
While you're at it, always go for the locking brummell, there's no reason not too!

Be careful twisting with a wand back and forth. Doing that quickly wears the snare at the point where it enters the wand. Try to keep the wand steady and milk the rope over it. Your snare will last much longer that way.

If you break the snare, young Nick will gladly sell you a batch. He braids them up out of zing-it.

My fid for Tenex is just a bent coat haner on a carbiner, my only problem is getting the stitch right so the burry does not milk out after a little use.

Youve fotta zigzag it around so that you get all the yarns of the throught and bury.

I made a bunch of snares out of technora. those things are indestructible! which doesn't explain why I have to replace it every now and then....

if you've got a wand not getting any use, send it my way, we can trade for splice work!
