Splicing a ringed continuous loop??

20180307_120238.webp Hey Guys and Gals,

I am relatively new to splicing and would really like to learn how to splice a continuous loop sling with a ring in to use as a prussiks or re-direct among many other uses. This is what I have so far. I borrowed boomslangs instructions for a boomsling and modified it to fit my needs. Basically i thought of a buried loop followed by a brummel then bury the tails at the top cross over point and finish with a lock stitch at cross-over? 20180307_120238.webp Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Are you going to use locked brummels or regular brummels? Being new to splicing, you might not be aware of the difference. Either one would work, with the locked giving more security.

Thanks for the insight Brocky.

Everything I have researched thus far suggests the same as you. However, you are right that I am not 100% clear on the difference. My assumption is that the locked brummel becomes locked by passing the standing part back through the rope or by using the McDonald brummel. And again assuming that the brummel is more of just a tuck with the tail then buried??

Did I make an ass of myself??

You've got it right. On the locked, each end passes through each other, and the regular has just one end passing through a few times. If you don't have access to both ends you tie it with the McDonald, or Möbius methods. Or a more complicated way is to pass the short tail through, unravel the strands, take half the strands on each side of the rope and rebraid, and bury as usual.

Please post pictures of your sling when you finish it.

After posting I zoomed in on your locked brummel and noticed that it might look slightly better if you came out of the eye and directly pass it through the other tail, instead of the way you have it. Strictly a cosmetic type of thing.

Thanks for all of the advice. I just laid it on top for the pic for reference, but any tips you long time splicers can give to a Newbie is greatly appreciated.

The knowledge on this forum is incredible and I am happy to live in an age where it can be shared so easily. Can only imagine trying to learn in the days before you tube and these forums.

Thanks again

I did finish the ring project. I ended up making a continuous loop and a whoopie and can use both as re-directs and/or use kleimheist for a terminal to create a better bend radius. 20180329_140922.webp
